東京大学名誉教授で東京大学国際高等研究所カブリ数物連携宇宙研究機構 (Kavli IPMU, WPI) の野本憲一 (のもと けんいち) 客員上級科学研究員が2026年のグルーバー宇宙論賞（Gruber Cosmology Prize) の受賞者の一人に選ばれました。カリフォルニア大学バークレー校天文学特別教授の Alexei V. Filippenko 氏とカリフォルニア大学サンタクルーズ校教授の Stanford Woosley 氏とともに「その先駆的な研究は、恒星進化、爆発的元素合成、重元素の起源、そして宇宙の化学的進化を結びつけ、精密宇宙論への超新星の活用を裏付けた」とされました。

The University of Tokyo Emeritus Professor and Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (Kavli IPMU, WPI) Visiting Senior Scientist Ken'ichi Nomoto has been awarded the 2026 Gruber Cosmology Prize by the Gruber Foundation. Together with University of California, Berkeley, Distinguished Professor of Astronomy Alexei V. Filippenko, and University of California, Santa Cruz, Professor Stanford Woosley, the three recipients have been recognized for trail-blazing work linking "stellar evolution, explosive nucleosynthesis, the origin of heavy elements, and the chemical evolution of the Universe, and supports the use of supernovae for precision cosmology.” Congratulations!

東京大学国際高等研究所カブリ数物連携宇宙研究機構（Kavli IPMU, WPI）客員科学研究員を兼ねるバルセロナ大学宇宙科学研究所 (ICCUB) の Chervin Laporte 准教授が参加するバルセロナ大学やカタルーニャ宇宙研究所などの研究者らのグループは、天の川銀河の初期の恒星円盤は、約110億年前に「ガイア・ソーセージ・エンケラドゥス（GSE）銀河」との激しい衝突によって大部分が破壊され、その後になってようやく再形成されたことを明らかにしました。詳しくはICCUBのページをご覧下さい。

Kavli IPMU は（株）steAm、（一社）Girls Unlimited Program との共催で、2026年5月5日（火・祝）に日本科学未来館にて、「「曲面の秘密」から未来へ ― 自分の可能性を広げよう！（May12企画）」を開催しました。
映画「曲面の秘密ーマリアムの魔法の杖」（日本語字幕 Kavli IPMU監修）の上映に続き、小野仁美さん、中島さち子さん、金森サヤ子さん、伊藤由佳理Kavli IPMU教授・副機構長、妹背正雄さんによるパネルディスカッション（モデレーター：篠崎菜穂子さん）、さらに子供向けSTEAMワークショップを実施し、理数系進学と数学の魅力を多くの来場者と共有しました。

On May 5, The University of Tokyo Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (Kavli IPMU, WPI), steAm Inc. and Girls Unlimited Program co-hosted a event "From Secrets of the Surface and Beyond: Find Your Potential!" at the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan). The day included a movie screening of "Secrets of the Surface: The Mathematical Vision of Maryam Mirzakhani", followed by a panel discussion with Hitomi Ono, Sachiko Nakajima, Sayako Kanamori, Kavli IPMU Professor Yukari Ito, Masao Imose, and moderated by Naoko Shinozaki. There was also a family STEAM workshop about career support for science and mathematics. Thank you to everyone who came!
