Nagoya is located in the heart of Japan and is one of the country’s most vibrant and well-connected cities.

We asked our G30 student ambassadors to introduce their favourite places in Nagoya — and Sugi’s pick is Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium!

Here’s how she describes it:

“I am a big fan of fish, so I wanted to go to the aquarium as soon as I found out! The facility is very large and houses all sorts of fun critters. It is most known for its shows including dolphins and belugas and small fishes. I would recommend visiting their website for the calendar and any collaboration information. In general, I think the Port area is a severely under looked location. It has many mall, exhibits, and cafes. I would definitely recommend checking it out!”

Fun fact: Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium is home to the Sardine Tornado, a great show display of 35,000 sardines dancing in the water!

Studying in Japan is an investment in your future.

Here are a few tips from our G30 student ambassadors on how to start building your life and career while studying abroad!

Today, Hannah shares how she prepares herself for future career opportunities:

"1. I Put myself out there and proactively find opportunities that can highlight my interests: I personally joined competitions, research conferences when possible, and shared my projects in social media, etc.

2. Gain real-world experiences through part-time jobs: having work experiences can help you learn soft-skills like how to handle clients/customers, time-management, while also earning some side-income! It can also allow you to explore new fields that might interest you!

3. I Connect with as many people as possible! Opportunities can always come from referrals or your networks that you genuinely maintain. I’ve seen firsthand how valuable these connections can be."

We are back with our G30 ambassador Hannah! Today Hannah would like to teach you a word of the day in Japanese in our next series "1 min. Japanese".

Hannah's word choice is:

「初心者」(shoshinsha) , which means beginner.

She chose this word because: "Starting something new can feel intimidating, especially when you’re stepping into a completely unfamiliar environment as an international student.

In Japanese, the word 初心者 means “beginner,” and it carries a humble reminder that everyone starts somewhere. Embracing being a beginner isn’t a weakness—it’s an opportunity to grow, enrich your life, and take meaningful first steps into adulthood."

Did you know that your body releases health signals called biomarkers?

Today, our G30 student ambassador Hannah is sharing a research highlight directly from her lab at the School of Agricultural Sciences at Nagoya University!

Here’s what Hannah says about her research:

“Biomarkers are objectively quantified indicators of normal biological processes, pathogenic processes, or pharmacological responses to therapeutic interventions (NIH, n.d.)

In my lab, I engineer an enzyme that allows us to quantify D-amino acids — one type of a biomarker — in human body fluids. Changed levels of specific D-amino acids are often associated with certain diseases.”

Although Hannah has not even finished her bachelor’s degree in Biological Science, she is already involved in advanced research with the goal of publishing her findings in peer-reviewed journals.

Nagoya is located in the heart of Japan and is one of the country’s most vibrant and well-connected cities.

We asked our G30 student ambassadors to introduce their favorite places in Nagoya — and Hannah’s pick is Expo 2005 Aichi Commemorative Park, also known as Moricoro Park!

Here’s how she describes it:

“This scenic park is perfect for a relaxing day trip with friends. The huge park features beautiful flower gardens, pampas grass trails, soft-serve ice cream cafés, interactive play areas, art installations, and even a 5.1 km cycling course where you can rent a bike for only ¥100. I tried it once and definitely want to go back in different seasons!”

Moricoro Park is also home to the world-famous Ghibli Park!
