rrently there is a high ratio of students and degrees awarded reflecting the breadth of the University's graduate programs and resources, the strength of the graduate faculty with a long tradition of personal and professional concern for students, and the opportunities afforded graduate students for involvement, recognition and support. Among these are the admission of women on an equal basis as men; the recognition of creative expression and artistic production as the basis for a graduate degree in lieu of a thesis or dissertation (leading to the development of the Master of Fine Arts degree) and the ranking of many graduate programs in the first quartile of national rankings. The traditions of access, equality, diversity among the graduate student body, and of recognition of quality graduate programs reflect the University's Strategic Plan and serve as constant goals. In 2012, the GLUK received The University Charter for its efforts to support diversity in education.and is recognized for its contributions to mentoring future graduate students from underrepresented groups . The quality of graduate programs administered by the GLUK is reflected in the recognition received by its students and faculty.
