The Open University of Kenya (OUK) and the University of Hargeisa have initiated discussions aimed at establishing a strategic partnership focused on advancing e-learning, digital transformation and innovative academic programmes.

In a consultative meeting recently held at OUK, both institutions expressed mutual interest in strengthening collaboration and leveraging their respective expertise to enhance higher education delivery in the region. The University of Hargeisa commended OUK’s growing reputation in digital learning and innovation, noting that the partnership presents significant opportunities for knowledge exchange and institutional growth.

During the discussions, both universities identified several priority areas for partnership. These include capacity building, joint academic programmes, collaborative research and innovation, mentorship and supervision of postgraduate students, co-marketing of academic programmes and virtual co-teaching initiatives.

Officials from both institutions emphasized that the collaboration is expected to strengthen institutional capacities, expand access to quality higher education and foster innovation-driven learning models. The partnership also aligns with broader efforts to integrate technology into education systems across Africa.

The visiting delegation from the University of Hargeisa comprised Dr. Khalid Ahmed Abdi, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Partnerships; Mr. Awil Ahmed, Director of Communications and ICT; Mr. Mustafe, Director of Library Services; and Mr. Abdiqathar Rashid from Partnerships and External Relations.

Further engagements are expected as both parties work towards formalizing the partnership framework and implementing the agreed areas of collaboration.
