Empowering Educators for the 21st-Century Classroom

What does it take to prepare learners for a rapidly changing world? It starts with empowered educators.

On Wednesday, 2 September 2026, Africa International University (AIU) brought together teaching staff and university leadership for a Faculty Empowerment Program themed “Empowering Educators: Innovative Pedagogies and Higher-Order Questioning for 21st-Century Classrooms.”

The one-day workshop challenged educators to rethink traditional approaches to teaching and embrace strategies that inspire students to think critically, ask deeper questions, solve problems, and apply knowledge meaningfully.

Led by Dr. George Kegode of Moi University, the session explored practical approaches to innovative pedagogy, Bloom’s Taxonomy, higher-order questioning, learner-centred teaching, and strategies for creating more engaging classroom experiences.

The workshop brought together the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Nelson Makanda, Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. John Chang’ach, Deans of Schools, Heads of Departments, and faculty members—reflecting AIU’s continued commitment to strengthening the quality and relevance of teaching and learning.

At AIU, we believe the future of education begins with empowered educators. By equipping our faculty to nurture critical, creative, and independent thinkers, we are shaping learners who are ready to lead, innovate, solve complex challenges, and make a meaningful impact in an ever-changing world.
