IMTR held its 61st Graduation ceremony at the IMTR grounds. The occasion was graced by the Chief guest - Mr. Chemanga Mongo Secretary Administration representing both the Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry and the Principal Secretary State Department of Environment and Climate Change. Mr. Alessandro Chiarello represented the Director WMO Regional Office for Eastern and Southern Africa, Mr. Benard Chanzu, Director and Principal IMTR, Mr. Edward Muriuki, Ag. Director Meteorological Services & Permanent Representative of Kenya with WMO;
Prof. Joseph Mutemi represented the Chairman, Department of Meteorology, University of Nairobi and Dr. Margaret Mwangi represented the Chairman, Kenya Meteorological Society.

On this occasion, the Institute graduated a total of 11 students from Kenya who have obtained essential training in the Middle Meteorological Technicians Course and 39 students who trained in the Operational Training Course to enable them perform their duties within their respective carders.

The PUMA 2025 Maintenance Training kicked off yesterday at IMTR, bringing together technical personnel from Gambia, Botswana, Kenya, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Eswatini, Nigeria, Somalia and Mozambique for a one-week training. Officially opened by the Director, IMTR Mr. Benard Chanzu, alongside Ag. DDEdT Mr. Charles Mwangi, the training, supported by the African Union Commission under the ClimSA project, will strengthen NMHSs’ capacity to maintain and sustain PUMA stations that provide vital satellite data for weather, climate monitoring and early warning services across Africa.
