It is always our joy to see stakeholders join hands in showing care, support, and solidarity with persons with disabilities. As an institution, we remain committed to our mandate of assessing children with disabilities and providing the necessary support and guidance to help them thrive.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the County Government of Murang’a, H.E. Governor Dr. Irungu Kang’ata, together with the First Lady of Murang’a County, for spearheading this impactful initiative that resonates deeply with the work we do at KISE.

DID YOU KNOW? 📚

Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that affects reading, spelling, and writing but it does not mean a person lacks intelligence. Many learners with dyslexia are highly creative, talented, and capable when given the right support.
🔍 Dyslexia can be:
✔️ Genetic
✔️ Developmental
✔️ Acquired through brain injury
✔️ Linked to emotional or psychological stress
🧠 With proper intervention such as structured literacy, assistive technology, extra learning time, and continuous support, learners with dyslexia can thrive both in school and beyond.
At the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE), we train teachers and education professionals on how to effectively support learners with dyslexia and other learning difficulties in inclusive classroom settings.

During the Disability, the Bible and the Church Conference 2026 organised by Hope Mobility Kenya , held at CITAM Valley Road, Mr. Anthony Mwangi, Deputy Director of Finance and Administration at Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE), spoke on overcoming disability stigma and commended the church for creating space for such important conversations.

He encouraged parents to instill values of respect and inclusion in their children and urged the church and wider community to involve persons with disabilities in leadership roles, social gatherings, weddings, parties, and other community activities.

Mr. Mwangi further encouraged parents to bring their children to KISE for early assessment and guidance, noting that delayed assessment may limit opportunities for support. He also encouraged registration with the National Council for Persons with Disabilities to access available services and support.

Smiles restored, hope renewed, and lives impacted.

Highlights from our outreach program at Mtongwe Comprehensive Primary School in Mombasa County.
The pictures you see capture moments from the community as families, children, and persons with disabilities turned up to access free assessments, therapy services, referrals, and professional support from the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) team.
Beyond the assessments and services offered, this outreach was about restoring dignity, creating awareness, and reminding every family that no child should ever be left behind.

Together, we continue to champion inclusion, accessibility, and equal opportunities for all.

Disabilities don't only happen at birth, anyone can acquire a disability at any point in life. Through what we call postnatal causes, an individual can acquire a disability even at the age of 50 and older due to unexpected life changes, illnesses, or accidents.

Rehabilitation is the vital bridge that helps an individual adapt, restore independence, and live almost a normal life through targeted interventions.

At the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE), we offer comprehensive Rehabilitation Services to support this journey
