NDU-K & BBRC FORMALIZE STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP TO STRENGTHEN STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP & INSTITUTIONAL COLLABORATIONS

In an increasingly complex, dynamic, and rapidly evolving defence and strategic studies ecosystem, collaboration among academic institutions, research organizations, and policy practitioners has become imperative for addressing emerging security challenges, fostering innovation, and developing evidence-based solutions.

Recognizing the growing importance of strategic partnerships in promoting knowledge exchange, capacity building, and interdisciplinary engagement, the National Defence University-Kenya (NDU-K) and Beyond Borders Research & Consulting (BBRC) formalized a strategic partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The partnership seeks to strengthen capacity in peacebuilding, mediation, restorative justice, strategic leadership development, executive education, and policy-oriented research, while advancing collaborative efforts that contribute to sustainable peace, security, and governance outcomes.

The engagement, chaired by the Vice Chancellor, Lieutenant General David Tarus, at the University Seat, brought together BBRC delegation headed by its Executive Director, Dr. Dan Odaba, and internationally renowned restorative justice and mediation expert, Prof. Dianne Williams. Discussions focused on opportunities for institutional collaboration and joint initiatives aimed at strengthening professional competencies and generating practical solutions to contemporary governance and security challenges.

Lt Gen Tarus reaffirmed NDU-K's commitment to advancing strategic education, research, and policy engagement in support of national, regional, and global peace and security. He observed that the evolving security landscape demands innovative and multidisciplinary approaches that integrate security, governance, social cohesion, mediation, and restorative justice.

The engagement, attended by the University Management, underscored the importance of fostering cooperation among scholars, practitioners, and institutions in addressing complex societal and security challenges. Participants emphasized that strategic partnerships provide an important platform for generating knowledge, enhancing professional practice, and informing policy development.

A key highlight of the meeting was the participation of Prof. Williams, whose distinguished career spans restorative justice, criminal justice, mediation, and peacebuilding. Her extensive professional experience and practical insights were recognized as valuable contributions that could enrich NDU-K's academic programmes, research initiatives, and professional training activities.

The formalization of the partnership marks a significant milestone in advancing collaborative approaches to peacebuilding, mediation, and strategic leadership development. It further reinforces NDU-K’s position as a premier centre of excellence in defence, security, and strategic studies, committed to generating knowledge and developing solutions that address contemporary and emerging security challenges.
