"It's mixed emotions. It's been exciting, tiring, and overwhelming."

Lourlin Capito is a Shearwater nurse at Aiken Regional Medical Center serving patients diagnosed with COVID-19.

Lourlin's hospital has been a supportive community while she and her coworkers fight against the virus. They have sufficient PPE, great teamwork in her unit, and rigorous protocols to slow the spread. They currently don't allow any visitors into the hospital, and employees undergo a screening test before they are allowed to work. They designated an entire floor for patients who test positive for COVID.

She also takes the necessary steps to keep herself healthy. She makes sure to always wear appropriate PPE and wash her hands. She gets enough sleep, takes daily vitamins, and eats healthy. She keeps her mental and emotional health strong through prayer and keeping in touch with her family and friends on video calls.

Lourlin has experienced a range of emotions during the pandemic. While it's scary, she knows she has grown as a nurse. She has honed her skills and become more confident in handling patients in isolation. While it's tiring, she feels a sense of pride for being able to directly care for COVID patients. While it's overwhelming, she is happy to be one of the millions of nurses on the frontlines.

To those nurses, like Lourlin, who are experiencing a roller-coaster of emotions as you serve on the frontlines, we stand with you. Thank you for all that you do to combat this pandemic.
