We are delighted to welcome Navodya Kondasinghe, a graduate student at the Department of Mathematics, Temple University, USA, who will deliver a talk on:

“Mapping Class Group of a Surface”

The talk will introduce the mapping class group of a surface, a fundamental object in surface theory, through accessible examples and key properties, building towards the celebrated Nielsen–Thurston classification theorem.

The event brought together members of the department in a warm and engaging setting to observe traditional New Year customs, take part in festive activities, and share seasonal refreshments. It provided a meaningful opportunity to reflect on cultural traditions while strengthening collegial bonds within the department ❤️.
