Royal College Tamil Debating Team The oldest Tamil debating team in Sri Lanka. The Royal College Tamil Debating Team exists from 1954. The members are selected from grade 8 and above.

In 2006 the team was formally incorporated into The Royal College Tamil Debaters' Council. The Royal College Tamil Debating Team was earlier functioning as a part of the Royal College Tamil Literary Association which was established in 1938. The Royal College Tamil Debating Team is considered as one of the Oldest Tamil Debating Teams of Sri Lanka. In early days Royal College Tamil Literary Associa

tion was mainly focused on debating, but later it diversified its focus onto various other literal activities, Thus is 2006 The Royal College Tamil Debaters' Council was formed to fully focus on the field of debating and to nurture and develop the Tamil debating skills among young Royalists and the 'Historic' Tamil Debating Team was incorporated in to the Tamil Debaters' Council. Membership of the Royal College Tamil Debaters' Council is very limited. The membership is limited to 5 per batch (grade). The members are selected from the Inter-Grade Tamil Debating Tournament. The maximum number of the members shall be approximately 40. The Royal College Tamil Debating Team is chosen from the members of the Royal College Tamil Debaters' Council by their performance in the practices and friendlies. The council has an advisory board. The President will be the Principal of Royal College and the Advisor will the be Deputy Principal of the Tamil Medium of Royal College. There will be one Senior Master In Charge and 3–4 Teachers In Charge. The council will be chaired by a Chairman and the Captain will lead the Royal College Tamil Debating Team. The Next position will be the Secretary and the Vice-Captain will be second in command of the Royal College Tamil Debating Team. Then there shall be a Treasurer, One or Two Editors, One Asst.Chairman, One or Two Asst. Secretaries and Two Sub-Editors. 8 Members will be appointed as executive committee members. The Royal College Tamil Debaters' Council has its' own e-magazine 'விவாதி' - The Debater. It contains articles on various topics and even writings of young Royalists.

Royal College Tamil Debating Team has emerged victorious in the 'விவாத மேடை' All Island Inter-School Tamil Debate Tournament, organized by Jaffna Hindu College. Throughout the competition, our team maintained an unblemished record.

In addition J. Hareish has been awarded the title of 'Best Debater' of the tournament.

The winning team consisted of N. Shaaduckshan, M. Thiviyan, J. Hareish, and P. Omson.

Royal College Tamil Debate Team recently ended its 14 year old wait for becoming the Champions of All-Island Tamil Day Competitions.
The Tamil day competitions, 2022 organized by the Ministry of education in which more than 1500 schools have participated has concluded yesterday while crowning the Tamil Debate Team of Royal College as the unbeaten champions.

After defeating Colombo Hindu College and S.Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia in the finals of zonal and provincial levels, The team consisted of R.Abishek ( Captain ), B.Gobiraam and S.Vhikaash clinched the title by beating Jaffna Hindu College in the finals of national level competitions.

The Annual All Island Interschool Tamil debate Tournament organized by Royal College Tamil Debaters' Council was held successfully on the 29th and 30th of October 2022.

The Grand Finale of this event was held on the 30th, The teams of Colombo Bishop's College and Colombo Hindu College were qualified as the finalists.

After a closely contested battle, The Bishop's College A team were chosen as the winners and they clinch the "Vethiyar Kinnam". We congratulate both the finalists and all the other teams with hope that they gained something worthwhile from the tournament.

றோயல் கல்லூரியின் தமிழ் விவாதக் கழகத்தினால் ஒழுங்கு செய்யப்படும் அகில இலங்கை பாடசாலைகளுக்கு இடையிலான விவாதச் சுற்றுத்தொடரானது இம்மாதம் 29 மற்றும் 30ம் திகதிகளில் இடம்பெறுகின்றது.

அதனது முதல் நாளின் நிறைவில் காலிறுதிச்சுற்றில் வெற்றி பெற்று அறையிருதிசுற்றுக்கு 4 அணிகள் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கப்பட்ட நிலையில், நாளை காலை 9 மணியளவில் அரையிறுதிச்சுற்றும் அதனை தொடர்ந்து இறுதிச்சுற்றும் 11 மணியளவில் இடம்பெறும்.

அரையிறுதிக்கு தெரிவான நான்கு அணிகளுக்கும் எமது வாழ்த்துக்கள்!

The Royal College Tamil Debaters' Council organized the Annual All Island Tamil Debating Tournament on the 29th and 30th of October 2022. After the completion of the 1st day, 4 teams managed to capture the Semi Finalist Spot qualifying themselves for the semifinals on the 30th of October 2022 at 9.00 a.m.

The four teams will be competing to seal their spot at the finals that will be happening at 11 a.m. on the same day.

The Royal College Tamil Debate team emerged victorious at the Sri Lanka Schools Debating Championship organized by the Moot Court and Debating Society, Faculty of Law of the University of Colombo, for the 8th time in its 15 years of history. The 3 teams representing Royal College emerged victorious through the league rounds, and all 3 three teams made it to the semifinals and two of our teams faced each other at the finals. This is a feat achieved only once before while the three where placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively.
A total of 4 Debaters representing Royal College were placed in the top 10 best Debaters of the tournament.
S. Vhikash - 1st place
R. Abishek - 2nd place
N. Shaaduckshan - 7th place
S. Sarangan - 8th place

"Words are strong, that they can overwhelm what we fear when fear seems more awful than life is good."

A new chapter begins in the endless tale of rivalry. The 25th Annual Royal-Thomian Tamil Debating Encounter is scheduled to be held on the 15th of July 2022, from 4.01 p.m. at the main hall of S.Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia.
