The Advanced Technological Institute, Jaffna was established in 1996 in a part of Muththuthambi Maha Vidiyalaya and later shifted to Palaly Teacher Training College. Initially the Institute offered two Higher National Diploma courses and three National Diploma courses; Higher National Diploma in Accountancy (HNDA), Higher National Diploma in Management (HNDM) and National Diploma in English (NDE-

In 2006 it was changed as HNDE), National Diploma in Business Studies (NDBS) and National Diploma in Business Finance (NDBF - discontinued in 2005). Higher National Diploma programme in Information Technology (HNDIT) was commenced in 2007 with 52 students.
