Felicitation Ceremony Honors Retired Professors of the Department of Electrical Engineering.

The Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Moratuwa, proudly honoured the distinguished service of Snr. Prof. N. Wickramarachchi and Prof. J. P. Karunadasa, whose remarkable contributions have shaped the department and the wider academic community. A gathering was held on 13 November 2025 in the department’s Seminar Room to recognize their exceptional careers.

Senior Prof. N. Wickramarachchi, who joined the Department in 1984 as a lecturer, was honoured for more than four decades of exemplary service marked by academic excellence, visionary leadership, and national contribution. During his tenure as Head of Department (2015–2017) and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering (2017–2022), he played a pivotal role in modernising engineering education, leading major curriculum reforms and establishing key laboratories. With a distinguished research record in Intelligent Control Systems, Lighting and Energy Efficiency, and Artificial Intelligence, he leaves a lasting legacy that has shaped generations of engineers.

Prof. J. P. Karunadasa, who began his career as a probationary lecturer in 1984 and over the years attained the rank of Associate Professor in 2009, also served as the Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Moratuwa from April 2008 to April 2013. He was recognized for his significant contributions to the fields of Electrical Machines, Drives, and Power Electronics.

The event featured speeches from both academic and non-academic staff, sharing memories and expressing gratitude for the professors’ commitment and leadership. Tokens of appreciation were presented as a gesture of respect and admiration.

The ceremony served as a warm celebration of two exemplary educators whose decades of service have shaped generations of engineers at the University of Moratuwa.
