The Center for IT Services, University of Moratuwa successfully created and deployed a secure e-voting application and conducted the Council elections 2025 for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka.
The secure and user-friendly electronic voting platform was designed to modernize the electoral process, enabling authenticated users to cast their votes remotely while maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of the voting process.
The application was equipped with cryptographic blind signatures to preserve integrity, secure hashing and strong encryption both at rest and transit to preserve confidentiality.
This solution addresses challenges in traditional voting systems by reducing costs, improving accessibility for remote voters, and providing faster, more accurate results while maintaining the democratic principles of secret ballots and election integrity.
It allowed to record the highest ever turnout for a council election in the history of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka.
