The Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce (FMSC) of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura (SJP) has been the gateway to success for over 50,000 students. In its illustrious history of 60 years of academic excellence, we have spearheaded the development of management education in Sri Lanka through our programmes designed to meet the needs of Sri Lanka’s economy and of its business managers. A Significant Milestone in Strengthening Industry-Academia Collaboration

The Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce (FMSC), University of Sri Jayewardenepura, proudly entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with PAN ASIA Bank, marking another important step in strengthening industry-academia collaboration.

This strategic partnership aims to foster knowledge exchange, enhance industry exposure, and create meaningful career opportunities for undergraduates, while aligning management education with the evolving demands of the corporate sector.

FMSC and PAN ASIA Bank agreed to collaborate in a spirit of mutual understanding, building a strong relationship grounded in goodwill and a shared vision for future growth and development.

The MOU was signed by Senior Professor M. M. Pathmalal (Vice Chancellor), Prof. Dushan Jayawickrama (Dean, FMSC), and Prof. Sumudu Perera (Coordinator, Industry Liaison Office), representing the University, alongside Ms. Thushari Malalgoda (Assistant General

It is with profound sadness that the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, mourns the passing of Senior Professor Nalin Abeysekara, former Dean of the Faculty of Management Studies, Open University of Sri Lanka.

An esteemed alumnus of the Department of Marketing Management, FMSC, Prof. Abeysekara remained continuously connected with the Faculty throughout his distinguished academic and professional career. We take great pride in his legacy, which stands as a reflection of the values and excellence nurtured within our Faculty. He was not only an eminent academic and visionary leader, but also a valued friend of FMSC. Over the years, he collaborated closely with our academic departments, consistently extending his support to Faculty initiatives and contributing meaningfully to our academic community. His selfless contributions to the Faculty, the University, and to the advancement of higher education in Sri Lanka are deeply appreciated and will be remembered with gratitude and respect.

We remember him not only for his intellectual brilliance, but also for his humility, warmth, and the lasting professional relationships he built across institutions. His passing is a profound loss to the academic community of Sri Lanka.

The international workshop on “Health Economic Analysis for Evidence-Driven Health Policies” was successfully held on 3rd and 4th March 2026 at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, bringing together international scholars, policymakers, and professionals to strengthen Sri Lanka’s health policies through data-driven decision-making.

The workshop was organized by the Postgradudate unit of the Department of Business Economics, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, Sri Lanka and the World Bank Group. The programme commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Dushan Jayawickrama, Dean of the Faculty, followed by opening remarks from Dr. Aparna Somanathan, Training Manager at the World Bank, and Senior Prof. Sampath Amaratunga, Department of Business Economics.

The programme featured expert lectures by Dr. Dee D**g, Dr. Hideki Higashi, Ms. Sunita Kumari Yadav, and Prof. Eric Finkelstein. International experiences from Japan, China, Thailand, and the World Bank were also shared, while Dr. Lakmini Magodaratne, Dr. Selvarasa Mathurahan, and Prof. Janaka Fernando presented insights on the current context of health economic analysis in Sri Lanka. The sessions were facilitated by Prof. Ole Frithjof Norheim and Prof. Eric Finkelstein, providing valuable perspectives on the practical application of health economic analysis in policymaking.

A special highlight of the programme was the official launch of the Health Economics specilizaition under the newly introduced MSc in Business Economics at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The programme coordinator, Dr. Dinesha Siriwardena, introduced this new postgraduate pathway to the participating scholars, marking an important step in advancing health economics education in Sri Lanka.

Programme Assistant (Contract Basis)

Applications are invited for the position of Programme Assistant on a contract basis. The ideal candidate should possess GCE Advanced Level (A/L) qualifications, good IT skills, and a good command of English (both written and spoken). The applicant should also be willing to work during weekends when required. Prior experience in a similar role will be considered an added advantage.

The selected candidate will be responsible for assisting with programme administration and providing support for management and coordination activities related to postgraduate programmes. The role includes supporting tasks related to management assistance, communicating with students, lecturers, and the Postgraduate Centre, and assisting with programme promotion and related activities.
