After months of anticipation, FAS Sports Week finally found its grand conclusion with the much-awaited Awarding Ceremony.@🏅

Although Sports Week was completed back in May, our June–July examination schedule and vacation period meant that the celebrations had to wait. August gave us the opportunity to come together once again and celebrate the dedication, teamwork and sportsmanship shown throughout the week.

🥇 1st Place — 2nd Year
🥈 2nd Place — 1st Year & 3rd Year

The evening came alive with vibrant dance performances, musical items and unforgettable moments, making the ceremony more than just an awards night—it was a celebration of the FAS spirit. 🎶💃

Most importantly, this ceremony marked a meaningful milestone for us. After the tragic incident involving one of our first-year students during last year's welcome ceremony, late-evening events had not been permitted. With the successful and safe conclusion of this event, we are proud to have created a safe zone for our students to gather, celebrate and enjoy together once again. 🤍

From the games on the field to the celebrations on stage, FAS Sports Week 2026 will remain a memory of unity, resilience and the spirit of our Faculty.

FASSU Brotherhood Cricket Match 🏏

We organized a Hardball Cricket Friendly Match among the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Year batches to identify and select talented players for the Faculty Cricket Team.

With every over, every wicket and every run, our students showcased their skills, sportsmanship and team spirit. 💪🏽🏏

A great opportunity to bring our batches together through the spirit of cricket and to build a stronger Faculty team! 💙

🏠 A New Milestone for Student Welfare at the University of Vavuniya

A significant step forward in strengthening student welfare and accommodation facilities at the University of Vavuniya was marked on 22 August 2026, with the laying of the foundation stone for the new student hostel.

As the first hostel under the national project to construct 55 hostels across state universities, its commencement from the University of Vavuniya marks a proud and historic moment for our university community. 🎓

The four-storey hostel, with an investment of over Rs. 231 million, will provide accommodation facilities for approximately 200 students at a time.

More importantly, four hostel projects have been allocated to the University of Vavuniya under this national initiative, creating new hope for addressing the accommodation challenges faced by our students and strengthening student welfare on campus.

As the Faculty of Applied Sciences Students’ Union (FASSU), we warmly welcome and appreciate this important investment in the welfare, dignity, and future of the students of the University of Vavuniya.

We look forward to seeing these facilities completed within the expected timeframe and serving generations of students to come. 💙
