The Medical Undergraduates’ Research Symposium 2026, held under the theme “Translating Awareness into Action: Community and Clinical Perspectives of Health,” was successfully conducted on 21st April 2026 at Auditorium 3, Paraclinical Block, Weralupa, Ratnapura.

We were honoured by the presence of Dr. Palitha Abeykoon, Advisor to WHO Country Office, Sri Lanka, as the Chief Guest. The programme included student research presentations, panel discussions, and recognition of best performers.

The Faculty of Medicine extends its appreciation to the Chief Guest, Dean, invited guests, Faculty staff, students, and all those who contributed to the successful completion of MeUReS 2026.

Sabare-Medywood Short Film Festival 2026, organised by the Department of Anatomy, was successfully held as a formative assessment focused on genetic disorders, featuring short films created by Batch 8 students.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. Dileepa Banagala, Dr. Gayan Sampath, and Dr. Yasas Kolambage for serving as judges and supporting the success of this event. This activity was a meaningful and engaging learning experience, and we are pleased to share a few glimpses from the day.

Precision Medicine Debate 2026, organised by Dr. Sumeth Perera, was successfully held today with the enthusiastic participation of our Batch 7 students.

The event featured three rounds of intense debating, where students demonstrated their knowledge, critical thinking, argumentation skills, and creativity in discussing important concepts related to precision medicine. We extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. Oshadhi Nallaperuma, Dr Amal Wageesha, and Dr Ruwan Parakramawansha for serving as judges and contributing to the success of this event. The active audience participation through voting further added to the spirit and excitement of the occasion.

A highly successful Community Engagement and Involvement (CEI) meeting was recently held at the Faculty of Medicine, Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka, marking a significant milestone in the DIGIPATHS project, pioneered by the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna.

This collaborative event saw the active participation of patients and community members from diverse regions including Northern, Eastern , Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces. The primary goal of this meeting was to ensure that the design of the digital healthcare support system is informed by the invaluable input and perspectives of the public and those who will ultimately use it. The robust engagement from these participants, underscores the project's commitment to developing a truly patient-centered and effective digital health solution.

𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒖𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔!

R. K. Umedha Sewmini from the 5th Batch has brought pride to our Faculty by winning 1st Place in the Most Popular Video Award Category.

The award was presented at the Video Competition on Cancer Awareness among undergraduates of Universities of Sri Lanka, held in parallel with the celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of the College of Pathologists of Sri Lanka.
