Medical School at a Glance
Over the past two decades, the University of Nicosia has led the development of life and health sciences programmes in Cyprus. The University of Nicosia started the first medical programme in Cyprus in 2011 by offering the St George’s, University of London Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) graduate-entry programme.
Medical School, the largest in the country offers two medical programmes and four postgraduate degrees:
Medical Programmes
• Doctor of Medicine (MD), a 6-year undergraduate-entry degree
• St George’s, University of London Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), a 4-year graduate-entry British medical degree quality assured by the UK General Medical Council and awarded by St George’s, University of London
Postgraduate Degrees
• Master of Public Health (MPH), a fully online degree for working professionals and new graduates
• Master in Family Medicine (MSc FM), a degree for practising doctors delivered entirely online.
• Master of Science in Health Services Administration (MHSA), a fully online degree for working professionals and new graduates.
• Doctorate in Medical Sciences (PhD), for research in all disciplines of Medicine.
More than 850 students from 64 countries around the world are enrolled in our Medical School, coming from as far away as the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

UNIC has been named among the Top 601-800 Universities in the world, according to the latest edition of the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2022. The THE World University Rankings (WUR) is possibly the best-known and most influential university rankings in the world, benchmarking institutions across their core missions: Teaching, Research, Knowledge Transfer, and International Outlook. The expanded THE WUR 2022 edition includes over 1,600 ranked research-intensive universities, out of more than 25,000 universities globally, that met the THE eligibility criteria and applied for assessment.
This latest distinction comes in the wake of the University’s 5-Star Institutional Rating by the QS Intelligence Unit in its 2020 audit, along with only 50 other universities globally. It also expands upon UNIC’s most recent ranking achievements in both the QS World University Rankings (number 106 in Emerging Europe and Central Asia Region) and the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings (number 32 in the world in the core area of Quality Education). The latter are the first to measure the success of universities in delivering the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The results of this year’s World University Rankings are the latest in a succession of distinctions bestowed on UNIC by Times Higher Education. Along with its inclusion in the Top 601-800 universities in the world (THE WUR table), UNIC was ranked:
• among the Top 251-300 Universities in the world that are 50 years old or younger by the 2021 THE Young University Rankings;
• among the Top 201-250 Universities in the countries or regions classified by the London Stock Exchange’s FTSE Group as “Emerging” by the 2021 THE Emerging Economies Rankings;
• among the Top 301-400 Universities in the world in Business and Economics by the 2021 THE World University Rankings by Subject, which correspondingly places UNIC as the #1 ranked university in Cyprus and Greece, and among the Top 100 universities in the European Union, in this subject area; and
• Number 32 in the world in the core area of Quality Education by the 2021 THE Impact Rankings.
