UoM Senior Management meets delegation from TUHH & IIT Madras - 07 September 2026
The University of Mauritius continues to strengthen its international partnerships as part of its commitment to research excellence, capacity building, innovation and global engagement.
A recent meeting brought together Prof K. Khedo, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Mauritius; Prof P. Ramasami, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Prof Boopen Seetanah, Dean of the Faculty of Law and Management; Prof Viraiyan Teeroovengadum, UoM; Prof Christian Ringle from Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH); and Prof Thenmozhi from IIT Madras.
The meeting provided an opportunity to review ongoing collaborations and discuss a number of new initiatives involving UoM, TUHH and IIT Madras.
The University’s collaboration with Prof Christian Ringle and TUHH spans approximately a decade and has contributed significantly to research capacity building at UoM. Over the years, this partnership has supported the development of researchers and doctoral students, particularly in the areas of data analytics and Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM), through specialised training, joint supervision, collaborative research and joint publications.
The relationship has progressively evolved into a strong and enduring academic partnership, with Prof Ringle becoming a valued mentor, collaborator and longstanding friend of the University of Mauritius.
Discussions also focused on the growing collaboration between UoM and IIT Madras. The recently held PLS2026 International Conference, in which IIT Madras partnered with UoM, represents one of several initiatives emerging from this relationship.
Further collaborative projects are now being developed, including discussions around a new MBA programme in Artificial Intelligence, as well as short professional and executive programmes in areas such as Artificial Intelligence and FinTech. A collaborative workshop at IIT Madras is also being planned.
Student mobility and international exposure remain important priorities. UoM has already welcomed students from TUHH and IIT Madras, and discussions emphasised the need to further develop reciprocal mobility opportunities that would enable more University of Mauritius students to undertake academic and research experiences at TUHH and IIT Madras.
The partnership with TUHH is also expected to enter a new phase, with further academic visits and collaborative activities envisaged following the successful securing of more than €150,000 in funding by the TUHH team.
These developments reflect UoM’s broader commitment to building sustainable international academic networks that move beyond individual activities and create long-term opportunities in research, doctoral education, student mobility, programme development, artificial intelligence, data analytics, FinTech and professional education.
The University of Mauritius looks forward to further consolidating its partnerships with TUHH and IIT Madras and translating these collaborations into tangible opportunities for students, academics, researchers and the wider community.
