La temporada de lluvias está llegando a su fin, ¡lo que significa sacar y desempolvar el equipo que no hemos usado en un tiempo! De la primera imagen a la última:
- Cámara térmica: se usa para identificar puntos calientes en el volcán y cambios de temperatura a través del tiempo.
- MobileDOAS: se utiliza para medir el flujo de plumas de dióxido de azufre.
- Tamizadora: se usa para analizar la distribución del tamaño de grano de los depósitos de PDC.
- ScanDOAS: similar al MobileDOAS, pero ¡estático!

Rainy season coming to an end means getting out and dusting off equipment we've not used for a little while! First image to last:
- Thermal camera: used to identify hotspots on the volcano and temperature changes over time.
- MobileDOAS: used to measure the flux of sulfur dioxide plumes.
- Sieve shaker: used to analyse the grain size distribution of PDC deposits.
- ScanDOAS - similar to the mobileDOAS, but static!

¡Trabajar en el campo es agotador! Pero nada que una siesta rápida no pueda arreglar. Fuimos deleitados con avistamientos de todo tipo de bichos durante el muestreo de primavera de esta semana. Parece que no somos los únicos que están disfrutando de todo el verdor que ha brotado durante estos húmedos meses de monsón.

Being out in the field is tiring work! But nothing a quick power nap can't fix. We were treated with sightings of all sorts of creepy crawlies during this week's spring sampling. Looks like we're not the only ones who are enjoying all the greenery that has sprung up during these wet monsoon months.

Tourists at Mount Dukono recently had a close call after ignoring warnings from the Indonesian Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) and violating a temporary climbing ban. Vimos de primera mano el impacto del reciente clima tormentoso durante nuestra recolección de muestras de manantial llevada a cabo en la semana anterior. En las fotos puedes observar cómo las tormentas tropicales locales pueden cambiar dramáticamente los lugares de muestreo donde solemos trabajar. Deslizamientos de tierra y árboles caídos nos obligaron a usar una ubicación alternativa para el muestreo, donde se vieron sedimentos con una apariencia lechosa en el lecho del río. ¿Alguna idea de qué podrían ser?

We saw the impact of the recent stormy weather first-hand during last week's spring sample collection. Here in the photos you can see how local tropical storms can dramatically change the sampling spots where we usually work. Landslips and broken trees forced us to use an alternative sampling location, where milky sediments were seen on the river bed. Any ideas on what these might be?

El viaje del jueves a Monte Grande vio a nuestros encantadores voluntarios tomando mediciones de espectroscopía de absorción óptica del Volcán de Colima y midiendo el grosor de los depósitos de corrientes piroclásticas. El flujo de SO2 estaba por debajo de Los límites de detección, pero, sin embargo, es una excelente manera de pasar una tarde.

Thursday's trip to Monte Grande saw our lovely volunteers taking optical absorption spectroscopy measurements of Volcán de Colima, and measuring the thickness of PDC deposits. SO2 flux was below detection limits - but nevertheless a great way to spend an afternoon.

The eruption on La Palma is fascinating. It is incredible all this scaremongering that has started. People need to seek reliable sources of information and ignore these ignorant idiots.

Why a "bizarre" swarm? Interesting why this adjective has been used for nothing unusual in the long-term evolution of a distributed volcanic field. It will be amazing if a new volcano does finally emerge. I wonder how many magma batches ascend quickly, generating seismicity, but without reaching the surface for every one that does. We don't have a clue.

Had a great workshop last week to summarize what we know about the magmatic systema of Volcán de Colima. There was a discussion on what needs to be done and hopefully some new collaborations will result.
