International collaboration created new opportunities for scientific dialogue and innovation 🌎🔬

Researchers and scholars from Indiana University and UNAM came together through the TORSION — Tests Of Relativity with Spin InteractiONs Workshop to exchange ideas and explore topics related to torsion, gravity, and theoretical physics, strengthening academic connections across institutions and borders. Initiatives like this highlighted the importance of global collaboration in advancing research and fostering meaningful scientific conversations within the international academic community.

The workshop counted with the co-organization and presentations from Michael Snow, Alan Kostelecky, Ralf Lehnert, Sepehr Samiei, and David Baxter from the Department of Physics.

Not only did they exchanged lots of interesting ideas and projects where they’re working on, but they also got to know awesome places in Mexico City, such as Coyoacán, a neighborhood rich in history, and the so-called University City, UNAM Campus.

Spaces that foster collaboration and the exchange of ideas are often where meaningful partnerships begin. 🌎

We were grateful to join the annual training for EducationUSA advisers from across Mexico, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua at the beautiful Centro Benjamín Franklin / Benjamin Franklin Center (BFC) in Mexico City.

The gathering created space for conversations around new collaborations, shared challenges, and opportunities to continue strengthening partnerships already underway. It was inspiring to learn more about the important work advisers across the region are doing every day to expand access to international education and support students on their journeys.

Thank you to EducationUSA and everyone involved for the warm welcome and thoughtful exchange of ideas. ❤️

Meaningful knowledge and expertise sharing, global connections, and shared learning can inspire future University students across borders. 🌎❤️

We just wrapped up the Explore IU Virtual Series for Spring 2026 — a series designed to allow students around the world to experience Indiana University through interactive academic workshops, student stories, and real conversations with IU faculty, staff, and students.

This spring, we welcomed participants from 5 different countries, creating exciting conversations and new connections across the region and beyond.
A huge thank you to our incredible faculty, staff, current IU students, school counselors, and especially our friends at EducationUSA and the U.S. Embassies across the region for helping promote the series and connecting students with these opportunities.

We are grateful for every session, every question, and every future Hoosier story just beginning. Until next time, Explore IU! ❤️🌍

The future Hoosier community in Mexico City keeps growing ❤️🌎

We were excited to welcome admitted undergraduate students and their families to our recent Indiana University Bloomington yield event in Mexico City.

The gathering offered a great opportunity for students to connect, learn more about the IU experience, and start building relationships before their journey in Bloomington begins. From conversations about academics and campus life to sharing excitement about what lies ahead, the afternoon reflected the strong sense of community that makes IU special.

A special thank you to Gabe Sheir Assistant Director of the Office of International Admissions for joining us and welcoming everyone with true Hoosier hospitality.
Congratulations again to all admitted students—we can’t wait to see the impact you’ll make as future Hoosiers!

Sports can move the world! 🏀🌎

We had the opportunity to meet with Tracy Ellis-Ward, Senior Vice President at Indiana Pacers Sports & Entertainment; Julie Roe Lach, Executive Vice President at Pacers Sports & Entertainment; and Alejandro Barrón, Sports Diplomacy Specialist at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico.

Together, we explored exciting possibilities for future collaborations connecting Indiana and Mexico through sports, education, and international engagement.
And a fun (and timely) note—the Indiana Pacers are coming to Mexico on November 7 to play the Denver Nuggets!

We look forward to turning these ideas into reality soon!

What happens when classrooms connect across borders? 🌎

Through this COIL collaboration between IU Indianapolis and Universidad Nacional Costa Rica, UNA, 46 students are participating in a truly international learning experience that supports both their academic and professional growth.

Over the course of five interactive sessions — and following more than six months of planning — students have engaged in meaningful discussions, exchanged perspectives, and reflected together on global topics. Along the way, they have also explored each other’s cultures, traditions, and even foods, sparking curiosity and encouraging them to see themselves as active participants in an interconnected world.

Initiatives like this not only broaden students’ perspectives, but also foster collaboration, empathy, and global awareness — skills that are essential in today’s world. It has been an enriching experience for everyone involved, including students, faculty, and staff, and we are grateful to continue supporting COIL collaborations that have been taking place for several years.

A special thank you to Jessica Isom and Jairo Viales for their dedication and commitment in making this successful course possible.
