Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) was officially launched on 13 August 2002 as a not-for-profit private university providing affordable quality education. It is established under the UTAR Education Foundation and registered under the Malaysian Private Higher Educational Institutions Act 1996. Guided by its vision to be a global university of educational excellence, UTAR is highly reputed as one of the fastest growing private higher education institutions in the country with phenomenal growth in all aspects of its development since its inception. With the first intake of only 411 students in its Petaling Jaya campus in 2002, the Universityโ€™s enrolment has now reached about 20,000 students with campuses located in Kampar, Perak and Bandar Sungai Long, Selangor. UTAR has graduated over 89,000 students since its inaugural convocation in 2005 and has made impressive strides in establishing a strong reputation as a comprehensive University with dedication to achieving excellence in teaching and research. The University currently offers over 140 academic programmes from Foundation Studies to Bachelor's, Postgraduate Diploma, Masterโ€™s, and PhD degrees in the fields of Accounting, Business and Economics, Actuarial Science, Mathematics and Process Management, Agriculture and Food Science, Arts, Social Sciences and Education, Creative Industries and Design, Engineering and Built Environment, Information and Communication Technology, Life and Physical Sciences, Chinese Studies, and Medicine and Health Sciences.

UTAR formalized a partnership with Anhui Communications Vocational and Technical College, the only institution in Anhui that stands out for its strong specialization in the transportation industry. This college also combines college-enterprise and cooperation and industry-academia integration to cultivate high-quality talents.

On 3 June 2026, UTAR Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development, Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min, and Anhui Communications Vocational and Technical College President Prof Sun Xiaolei signed the partnership agreement at Anhui Communications Vocational and Technical College.

Guided by a shared commitment to the Belt and Road Initiative, both institutions are dedicated to creating wider opportunities for their students. This partnership is expected to benefit both institutions.

UTAR confirmed the collaboration with Anhui Agricultural University (AAU), which is a โ€œDouble First-Classโ€ cultivation university, with a long history specializing in agriculture and forestry. It is a high-level institute with local characteristics sponsored by Anhui Province.

On 2 June 2026, UTAR Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development, Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min, and Anhui Agricultural University Vice President Prof Dr Chen Liqing signed a collaboration agreement at Anhui Agricultural University.

Both sides are aligned in their dedication to lasting cooperation, pledging to work hand in hand on upcoming plans. We anticipate a stronger and more dynamic future for both institution through this valuable partnership.

UTAR held productive discussions with Sun Yat-Sen University (SYSU), a prestigious university in China renowned for its strengths in humanities, social sciences, medicine, and engineering, during its visit to SYSU in Guangzhou on 22 May 2026.

Discussions focused on several key areas, including joint talent development such as โ€œReverse 2+2โ€ undergraduate and โ€œReverse 1+1โ€ masterโ€™s programmes, research collaboration in AI, the digital economy, the low-altitude economy, and โ€œBelt and Roadโ€ initiatives, as well as student exchange programmes.

SYSU plays a significant role in advancing higher education and fostering international academic exchanges. It is also actively involved in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and contributes to Chinaโ€™s national strategies.

UTAR looks forward to building a productive and lasting partnership with SYSU, contributing to stronger China-Malaysia collaboration in higher education, research, and talent development.

UTAR has built a strong bond with Hefei Normal University, a university known for its strengths in teacher education and recognized as one of the first national units for the โ€œExcellent Teacher Training Programโ€. Hefei Normal University is also one of the first universities in Anhui to establish an โ€œEntrepreneurship Collegeโ€.

UTAR Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development, Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min and Hefei Normal University Vice President Prof Dr Li Xuejun signed an collaboration agreement at Hefei Normal University on 2 June 2026.
