UiTM Cawangan Sabah Library was established in July 1973 in coincide with the establishment of UiTM Cawangan Sabah which was known at that time as the Sabah Foundation - Institut Teknologi MARA (YS-ITM), Kota Kinabalu. It was located at Level 1 at the Academic Centre with a staff of only three. The library continued its operation at Sembulan even when most of the students and staff have relocated
to the permanent campus at Kuala Menggatal in 1983. This continued until 1991 when ITM surrender the Sembulan campus building to Yayasan Sabah in 1991. The library was located at Blok Rafflesia at Kuala Menggatal campus until June 1993 when it moved to a new building in the new Academic and Administration Center. When ITM expanded its campus to Tawau, Sabah, another library was set up at the 2nd floor of Wisma MAA. However, in 2003, it was moved to the 4th floor of the same building to provide more space. UiTM Cawangan Sabah Library began implementing automation systems through SISPUKOM (Library Computer System) in November 1996 and upgraded its system to ILMU (Integrated Library Management Utilities) in November 2003. On 18 March 2003, Kota Kinabalu campus library had to move to the Recreations hall due to the Academic and Administration Center structural problems. However, book loan/return services were done via "off line" at the new building. They were later and updated in the server that was still at the original building. The new library was only able to perform all its functions when the ‘Knowledge’ server was moved to the Recreational Hall on 1st April 2003 and completely ran circulation counter on 2nd April 2003. On 28 February 2004, the students dining area near the library was renovated to provide extra space and comfort to the students. The extra space added an additional 160 seats to the library users. On 6 June 2004, Internet access was reestablished at the ICT Hall and a few new services were introduced such as Virtual CD Database and Desktop PCs with ‘word processor’ for students use.
