BACKGROUND
In 1991, the Education Planning Committee (Jawatankuasa Perancangan Pendidikan) of the Ministry of Education approved a proposal for the establishment of a Kulliyyah of Languages, leaving the university to decide on the course and content of the formation of the new Kulliyyah. Apart from that it is also offering Modern Arabic, English, Malay, Japanese, French and Mandarin pr
oficiency courses. This means that the university is ready to embark on offering degree programmes related to these languages. OBJECTIVES
1.To offer new language, tourism planning and hospitality management programmes and enrich the variety of academic choices for Malaysians and the international population.
2.To be in the position to offer specialized language, tourism planning and hospitality management courses and training.
3.To work side by side with other Kulliyyahs for continuous improvements of language performance of staff and students.
4. To provide training, skill upgrading and knowledge enhancement in the field of language, tourism planning and hospitality management.
5. To give Input on Islamic perspectives in the field of language, tourism, hospitality, and management. TO MAKE MALAYSIA AN EDUCATIONAL HUB FOR MULTILINGUALISM
The establishment of the new Kulliyyah would help towards making Malaysia an educational hub for language proficiency courses. The international community at the university makes it conducive for these kind of programmes to be offered by IIUM. PRODUCE PROFICIENT USERS OF THE LANGUAGE(S)
To produce multilingual graduates who can fulfill the emerging needs of the international market in the context of an increasingly globalized world. TO PRODUCE LANGUAGE EXPERTS
Malaysia lacks experts in some foreign languages, tourism and hospitality field of studies. Offering the proposed language, tourism and hospitality programmes will help in meeting the needs of the country and the international community in providing experts in the relevant languages, tourism and hospitality. POTENTIAL LANGUAGE PROGRAMMES IN THE FUTURE
The new Kulliyyah will in the future offer new language programmes in Asian, European and African languages. The international atmosphere of the university naturally facilitates these programmes. IIUM students will then have more options to minor in or pursue a double major in a language, or simply master yet another foreign language and further enhance their knowledge and marketability for the workplace. For students planning careers overseas, with international firms, translating and interpreting, consultancy, publishing, teaching or those seeking the advantage of being bilingual in the multicultural world of the twenty-first century, the Kulliyyah will provide the opportunity to develop advanced language proficiency as well as increased cross-cultural understanding. STRENGTH OF TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY PROGRAMMES
The tourism and hospitality division aims to train professionals of a very high standard of competency and knowledge in tourism and hospitality. The programme intends to instill a sense of responsibility and commitment to natural and built heritage and having the capacity to monitor their well-being for the future generation through understanding Tauhidic approach to tourism and hospitality development. It caters for the higher level of demands in terms of advanced knowledge and skills in the field of tourism and hospitality in its planning and the management for both sectors. The programme will equip graduates in tourism and hospitality with knowledge on current issues in tourism planning, contract law, basic construction and development of hotels and resort, project and business management within a national and increasingly global context. The courses are highly relevant to the needs of the industry. It emphasizes on case study material using a combination of lectures, seminars and workshops.
