We CANNOT kick off into 2021 without tabling the Sexual Harassment Bill.
As dangerous as it sounds, the current Malaysian laws against sexual harassment are limited in scope. This November, the Malaysian Parliament and the Cabinet of Malaysia will decide to table the Sexual Harassment Bill.
Key Proposals include:
1. Everyone π§πΎπ©πΏβπ¦°π§π»βπ§π½π±πΌββοΈπ΄πΏπ§π»β(non-Malaysians, documented/undocumented, working/unemployed) will be protected under this act.
2. Survivors who speak up will be protected against retaliation from the perpetrator, or from legal action.
3. Hearings of reports on SH will be not be public, thus protecting the privacy of those who come forward. ππ€
4. Accountability. Private or public institutions will be held responsible if they do not establish preventative measures, or investigate and provide redress to the survivor.
