Malaysia, Malaysia,
it is about time.

We CANNOT kick off into 2021 without tabling the Sexual Harassment Bill.

As dangerous as it sounds, the current Malaysian laws against sexual harassment are limited in scope. This November, the Malaysian Parliament and the Cabinet of Malaysia will decide to table the Sexual Harassment Bill.

Key Proposals include:
1. Everyone πŸ§‘πŸΎπŸ‘©πŸΏβ€πŸ¦°πŸ§‘πŸ»β€πŸ‘§πŸ½πŸ‘±πŸΌβ€β™€οΈπŸ‘΄πŸΏπŸ§‘πŸ»β€(non-Malaysians, documented/undocumented, working/unemployed) will be protected under this act.

2. Survivors who speak up will be protected against retaliation from the perpetrator, or from legal action.

3. Hearings of reports on SH will be not be public, thus protecting the privacy of those who come forward. πŸ™ŠπŸ€

4. Accountability. Private or public institutions will be held responsible if they do not establish preventative measures, or investigate and provide redress to the survivor.

In 2020 alone, we see the detainment of predominantly black and brown migrant bodies in Malaysia, the murder of trans women, and the unjust oppression of Black people in the United States of America. This national and international violations of human rights disproportionately impact q***r bodies.

In an ongoing global pandemic, PRIDE 2020 is truly unlike any other as it returns to its roots of rebirth, revolution and rebellion.

Let us stand in solidarity with our brown and black members of the LGBTQ+ community, both at home and all around the world. This Pride, can we remember their struggles, their pain, and their lives? Let this year be the year of change.

Happy Pride Month from all of us at MUSA Wom*n's Officers.

Team Wom*n's is psyched to announce our new initiative on mental health awareness!

We aim to reduce the stigma around mental health issues as much as possible and create a safe space for all. This time around, we will be collaborating with mental health professionals! They will come in and answer some of our burning questions on mental health. And yes, you too can take part in this!

A story will be uploaded every day, simply click on the box and shoot in your questions! The more specific, the better! If you want to ask a personal question without revealing your identity, you can just click on the link below to fill out the anonymous questions form.

We hope this initiative is helpful and informative for all!

As part of our SAAM awareness campaign, we are asking you to send in your thoughts, messages of solidarity to the survivors and your experiences in order to collectively raise awareness.

The stigma behind sexual assault is still very prevalent and the way we as a society can reduce it, as difficult as this is, is to keep talking about it. We need to hold the perpetrators and enablers accountable instead of the survivors. It's important to believe and support survivors in this process.

Can you believe it's already time for our next bi-weekly discussion? In conjunction with sexual assault awareness month, this BWD will discuss sexual violence, relationship boundaries and abuse of power.

Conversations around sexual assault are difficult, yet necessary. Therefore this time, the wom*n's officers hope to provide a safe space where all participants can freely express themselves regarding this topic. We hope that this week's discussion helps strengthen survivor solidarity and raise awareness.
