• What types of exams should I expect?

There are two types of assessments:
Pen-on-paper exams for most courses
Computer-Based Tests (CBTs) for all GST and GNS courses

• How is my final grade calculated?

Your final grade comprises 30% Continuous Assessment (CA)—including attendance, assignments, quizzes—and 70% from your final examination.

• What is the CGPA classification at CDLCE?

Here’s how your degree classification will be determined:
• 4.50 – 5.00 – First Class Honours
• 3.50 – 4.49 – Second Class Upper
• 2.40 – 3.49 – Second Class Lower
• 1.50 – 2.39 – Third Class
• 1.00 – 1.49 – Pass Degree

• What is the grading system like?

Our grading follows a 5-point scale:
• 70–100 = A
• 60–69 = B
• 50–59 = C
• 45–49 = D
• 40–44 = E
• 0–39 = F

• How are GST/GNS courses examined?

They are Computer-Based Tests (CBT) conducted at the CDLCE complex.

• How are other courses examined?

All non-GST courses are Pen-on-Paper (PoP) exams after the tutorial period.

Frequently Asked Questions: Course Registration & Grading

• How many credit units can I register per semester?

Each student is required to register a minimum of 15 units and a maximum of 24 units, subject to departmental guidelines.

• What’s the order of course registration?

Always start with your compulsory courses, then proceed to elective ones. If you’re a returning student, make sure to register carryover and outstanding courses first before moving on to current level courses.

• Can I skip registering a course I don’t like?

You're advised to register only courses you intend to complete, as each registered course reflects on your transcript and is factored into your CGPA.

• How many courses can I register per semester?

Minimum: 15 units | Maximum: 24 units (as determined by your department).

• Can I register elective courses before compulsory ones?

No, compulsory courses must be registered first.

• What if I have carryover courses?

Register carryover and outstanding courses first before current ones.

• What happens if I register a course but don’t take the exam?

Every registered course counts in CGPA calculation—only register courses you intend to take.

• How much is the acceptance fee after admission?
₦30,000 (excluding bank charges) payable ONLY on your remita-integrated Portal

• How much is the application fee?

The application fee is ₦15,000. This excludes any transaction or service charges from the payment platform.

• Do I need to stamp my fee receipts?

Yes. All your payment receipts must be signed and stamped by the Bursary Unit of the Centre. This stamping is mandatory to be eligible to sit for exams.

• How much is the acceptance fee?

Upon admission, you’ll be required to pay an acceptance fee of ₦30,000 (excluding any transaction charges).

• When can I pay my school fees?

As a Newly-Admitted Student, your School fees can only be paid after your screening has been approved. If there’s any adjustment in your department or level, wait until it reflects on your portal before proceeding with fee payment or course registration. Returning Students can proceed with their payments immediately the session commences.

• What documents are required for the screening exercise?
You must present:

Original credentials (O’Level, Higher Degree where applicable)
State of Origin & Birth Certificate/Declaration of Age
Admission Letter
Printed Application Form (pre-admission)
Screening Form (printed from the portal)
Recent passport photograph

• At the point of Screening, what happens if I’m recommended for a department or level change?

You must present the signed recommendation document/screening certificate from the screening officer to the Exams and Records Unit, who will guide you on the next steps. Wait for the changes to reflect on your portal before proceeding with school fees or course registration.

• What documents do I need for the screening exercise?

After paying the acceptance fee (usually ₦30,000), prepare the following original documents in a single file for your departmental screening:
O’level result
Any higher qualification (e.g., ND, NCE)
State of Origin certificate
Birth certificate/declaration of age
Admission letter
Printed application form
Screening form (printable from your portal)

• Are the academic calendars for ODL and PT the same?

Yes, both modes follow a shared, uninterrupted calendar. In fact, we typically complete three semesters within one calendar year—ensuring you graduate in record time.

• How long does an ODL programme take?

5 sessions (for O’Level entrants)
4 sessions (for HND/ND/NCE holders)

• How many semesters are in a session?

Each session has two semesters (First & Second). Each uninterrupted Semester is approximately between 3-5months.

• How many semesters run in a year?

Three semesters (ensuring faster completion).

Admission Application Process

• How do I apply for admission at the University of Abuja CDLCE?

To apply, visit the CDLCE website at http://cdlce.uniabuja.edu.ng/ to explore available programmes. Once ready, proceed to the application portal at https://shorturl.at/dhEoH to complete your application.

• What is the application fee, and how do I make payment?

The application fee is ₦15,000 (excluding bank charges). After creating your biodata on the portal, proceed to make the payment. Once payment of application fee is made, your application number will be generated automatically.

• How do I log in after payment?

Login back to the portal https://portal.uniabuja.edu.ng using your application number as the username and your surname (in lowercase) as the password. After logging in, click on the "Application Form" menu by the left hand side of your portal dashboard after login to fill the application form.

• What file format and size are required for document uploads on the portal?

All credentials must be uploaded in JPG format and should be less than 100KB in size. Ensure you also input the right format of phone numbers 11 characters and no colons should be left unanswered.

• How do I know if my admission has been granted?

Keep checking your portal https://portal.uniabuja.edu.ng for updates after login. Once admitted, you’ll be required to pay an acceptance fee of ₦30,000 and join the official communication channel at https://t.me/uniabujacdlce.

• How do I get my Application Number?

Begin your application by creating your biodata, make a non-refundable payment of ₦15,000 (excluding charges), and your application number will be automatically generated after payment. Use it as your username to log in and your surname (in lowercase) as your password.

• What happens after submitting my application?

Once you’ve submitted your application and printed your completed form, your job is to stay alert. Keep checking your portal regularly for updates on your admission status. If offered admission, follow the next steps diligently, including paying your acceptance fee and joining our Telegram channel for updates.

• How do I know if I’ve been offered admission?

Your admission status will be updated on the portal you used during application. Check it regularly. Once admission update is out, we’ll also notify you via our communication channel on Telegram at t.me/uniabujacdlce — so join in for all the juicy updates!
