*10 Factors that will influence your chances of admission in 2026* .

♦️1. Catchment Area ( within your area of Catchment)b. Example. In 2025, while the Merit Cut off Points COP for Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) in UNILAG was 85.025, the Catchment Area Cut off Points(COP) for candidates from Ekiti State was 79.975 and while the Merit ( COP) for Doctor of Pharmacy ( PHARM D) was 76.4, the Catchment Area COP for Lagos indigenes was just 69.5. *Is your State of origin(SOO) a Catchment Area to your Institution of choice (IOC) ?*
♦️2. ELDS ( Educationally less developed states). By the policy of the federal government, candidates from these States have special admission quota in all federal Institutions. There are 22 states in Nigeria classified as ELDS. *Is your State of origin(SOO) classified as ELDS ?*
♦️3. The Competitiveness of your course of Choice. This depends on
(i). the overall performances of the candidates applying to the course in that institution
(ii). The total number of applicants to that course in that Institution that year.
(iv). the number of candidates that department is capable of admitting that year.
(v). the number of people from your State of Origin ( SOO) applying to that department that year. This number only affects the Catchment Area COP & the ELDS COP.
♦️4. The Competitiveness of your Institution of choice( IOC). The Most competitive Institutions are all federally owned: UNILAG, NDA, UNN, UI, UNIBEN, OAU, ABU, UNIZIK, UNILORIN, UNICAL, UNIPORT,UNIABUJA, FUTA, FUTO, FUTMINNA, etc, etc. The more competitive an Institution is, the tougher the admission possibilities. The competitiveness of an Institution is caused by 2 factors
(i). the volume of candidates aspiring to Institution
(ii). the overall UTME performances of the candidates aspiring to that Institution
(iii). the number of aspirants an Institution is capable of admitting. Example: Getting MBBS admission in FUTA is tough because FUTA admits a very limited number of candidates for MBBS.
♦️5. Proximity of Institution (POI) ( nearness to your place of residence ). The nearer the Institution is, the easier it's for you to get first hand information from the admissions office on the admission processes, and the easier it's for you to get authentic P-UTME materials if the Institution is conduction the exam. A candidate living in Benin City is better off with UNIBEN than OAU. *Proximity !*
♦️6. Top UTME Score( TUS) + Top Post UTME(TPS) Score = Top aggregate Score(TAS)= High Chance of Admission (HCA). NOTE: It's not every Institution that conducts the P-UTME.
*REMEDIES FOR LOW UTME SCORES*
(i). The Candidate with a Low UTME SCORE changes to an Institution that conducts the P-UTME. This gives him/ her another opportunity to compete for a Top score.
(ii). The Candidate with a Low UTME SCORE changes to a less competitive Course ( LCC) or Less Competitive Institution ( LCI). *A high opportunity for Admission !*
♦️7. Top UTME Score(TUS) + Top Screening Score(TSC) = Top aggregate Score (TAS). High Chance of Admission (HCA). For Institutions that won't conduct POST UTME Exam.
*REMEDIES FOR LOW O-LEVEL AGGREGATE*
(i). The Candidate with a Low O-LEVEL AGGREGATE changes to an Institution that conducts the P-UTME. This gives him/ her another opportunity to compete for a Top score.
(ii). The Candidate with a Low UTME SCORE changes to a less competitive Course ( LCC) or Less Competitive Institution ( LCI). *A high opportunity for Admission !*
♦️8. Top O-LEVEL Grades. For Institutions that make use of the Olevel grades for calculating aggregates. Most of the Institutions do.
♦️9. PROPER Guidance on Change of Course(COC) and Change of Institution ( COI). The opportunity for candidates to do COC or COI is one of the best policies of JAMB since 1978.
