To assist and support the Nigeria Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) and the Nigeria Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMA&RD) in building a sustainable network of highly skilled field epidemiologists, veterinarians and laboratory managers who measurably improve public health services through:


1. Strengthening Nigeria’s public health capacity by developing a cadre of health

professionals with advanced skills in applied epidemiology and laboratory management
2. Improving Nigeria’s national and regional capacity to respond to public health emergencies such as disease outbreaks, natural disasters, and other unusual public health events including those that could be the result of chemical or biological terrorism

4. Bolstering Nigeria’s national human and veterinary disease surveillance systems
5.Optimizing effective laboratory participation in disease surveillance and field investigations and

6.Enhancing communications and networking of public health practitioners and researchers in the country and throughout the regions.

The 3rd NFELTP/NCDC annual scientific conference was held from September 4-6, 2018 with the theme “Strengthening Health Security through Field Epidemiology”. The Honorable Minster for Health, ably represented by the Minister of state for Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, declared open the event. While declaring the conference open, he enjoined all to prudently contribute in building a strong health system in Nigeria that can respond to diseases and outbreaks within the shortest possible time. Epidemiologists are our “corp soldiers” who have been an integral part of our outbreaks and have even supported other African countries.
The conference had 199 presentations from various sub-themes.Twenty-two (22) awards were presented to outstanding presenters in the different categories.
