OFFICE OF THE VICE-CHANCELLOR
MEMORANDUM

To:The General Public, Staff, Students, and Stakeholders
From:Office of the Vice-Chancellor
Subject:Notice of Participation in ASUU Strike
Date:October 13, 2025

Dear All,

The University of Calabar wishes to inform the general public, staff, students, and stakeholders that, in compliance with the directive of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the University has joined the ongoing nationwide strike action embarked upon by the Union on the 13th October, 2025.

This decision aligns with the resolution of the ASUU National Executive Council (NEC) to press for the resolution of critical issues affecting the welfare of academic staff and the funding of public universities in Nigeria. Consequently, all academic activities, including lectures, examinations, and other related functions, are suspended until further notice from the ASUU body.

We urge all members of the University community and the public to remain calm and supportive as we work towards a resolution in the best interest of our education system. Updates regarding the strike and any further directives from ASUU will be communicated promptly through official channels.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Signed,
Prof. Florence Obi Banku

UNICAL DOES NOT CONDUCT ADMISSIONS ISSUES OUTSIDE THE INSTITUTION.

The Management of the University of Calabar, ( UNICAL) wishes to inform members of the public that the institution does not conduct " admissions issues" outside the University.

This statement issued by the Registrar of the University of Calabar, Mr Gabriel Egbe on behalf of Management is coming on the heels of a post in the social media attributed to a Cross River State Government functionary requesting candidates seeking admissions into Unical to submit their credentials somewhere in town .

According to the Registrar, the University of Calabar has only one admissions office with an admission officer as the head of the unit.

According to him, all admissions in the University are centrally processed through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) and no other office within or outside the University handles admissions matters.

The University views the false, awful and mischievous publication as the work of racketeers whose intent is to smear the good name of the University, damage the reputation of the government official mentioned and also defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

Members of the public are hereby requested to ignore the said publication as admissions will be given to only qualified applicants who subscribed to the University of Calabar .
