UN-HABITAT BRINGS GLOBAL INITIATIVE TO MAU, YOLA AS VICE CHANCELLOR PLEDGES FULL SUPPORT

A high-level team from UN-Habitat's SIDPIN Project visited MAU Yola today, proposing a landmark Memorandum of Understanding that could unlock new frontiers of inclusive urban development programming for Nigeria's North-East.

The delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor of Modibbo Adama University, Yola Prof. Ibrahim Umar laying the groundwork for a formal institutional partnership that could yield transformative dividends for the region.

The team, led by the Chief Technical Adviser of the UN-Habitat Office in Nigeria Niina Rinne, presented a proposal for institutional collaboration and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UN-Habitat SIDPIN and Modibbo Adama University, Yola a move aimed at strengthening urban development programming, research excellence, and knowledge transfer across Adamawa State and the wider North-East of Nigeria.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Ibrahim Umar, received the delegation warmly and expressed deep appreciation for the initiative. He pledged the university's full commitment to the proposed partnership, promising to provide all necessary support and an enabling environment to ensure its success.

In a testament to Modibbo Adama University, Yola growing institutional capacity, Prof. Umar also highlighted that the university currently enjoys a 24-hour uninterrupted electricity supply a remarkable achievement that underscores its readiness to host and sustain high-impact collaborative programmes.

According to the proposal letter, the MoU would focus on inclusive and sustainable urban development, community programming, and research collaboration and many more. The partnership is envisioned as a long-term framework that not only benefits the two institutions but also strengthens community ties and drives development outcomes across the North-East sub-region.

Both parties expressed eagerness to meet again to further discuss timelines, content of formal collaboration, and the possibilities of building a lasting partnership with Modibbo Adama University.

NCDMB INSPECTS MAU, YOLA CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE, PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO VICE CHANCELLOR

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) today paid a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor of Modibbo Adama University Yola, Prof. Ibrahim Umar as part of an inspection exercise of the university’s Centre of Excellence established by the Board.

The delegation was led by Mr. Ene Ette of the Board’s Research and Development (R&D) directorate and Mr. Obinna Osuji of the Quality Assurance (QA) unit. The visit forms part of the NCDMB’s Quality Assurance mandate to assess the current status, progress, and operational realities of its Centres of Excellence across Nigerian universities and institutions.

Receiving the team, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Ibrahim Umar charged the NCDMB delegation to ensure full and effective running of the Centre of Excellence project, stressing the importance of translating the Board’s investment into tangible outcomes for the university.

Professor Bashir Aliyu, Director of the Centre of Excellence at Modibbo Adama University, also addressed the delegation, highlighting the specific needs of the Centre and what is required from the NCDMB to bring it to full operational capacity.

The NCDMB had in a notice earlier directed CoE Directors and Contractors handling remodelling and upgrade works at the Centres to be present during the inspection, along with relevant Bills of Quantities (BOQs) and supporting project documents for verification and assessment purposes.

The visit was part of a wider inspection exercise that also covers the Centre of Excellence at the Federal University of Technology Minna (FUTMINNA), reflecting the Board’s commitment to accountability and progress across its CoE investments in Nigerian universities.

NUC Approves B.Sc. Artificial Intelligence Programme for Modibbo Adama University, Yola

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has officially approved the commencement of a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) programme in Artificial Intelligence at Modibbo Adama University, Yola, Adamawa State.

The approval was conveyed in a letter dated 8th May, 2026, addressed to the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

According to the letter, the university successfully satisfied all requirements for the establishment of the programme, which will commence from the 2025/2026 academic session.

This development marks a major academic milestone for Modibbo Adama University as it continues to expand into emerging fields of technology, innovation, and digital transformation.

The introduction of Artificial Intelligence further strengthens the university’s commitment to producing globally competitive graduates equipped with modern technological skills.

The university community and the general public have welcomed the approval as a giant step toward advancing research, innovation, and quality education in the institution.

Special appreciation goes to the Vice-Chancellor, the university management, Senate, academic planners, staff, and all stakeholders whose dedication, vision, and collective efforts made the approval possible.

MAU, YOLA CAREER SERVICE CENTRE HOSTS TRAIN-THE-TRAINER WORKSHOP ON CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS

The Career Service Centre of Modibbo Adama University Yola, has organised a two-day Train-the-Trainer Workshop on Career Development and Employability Skills, drawing a distinguished gathering of academics, administrators, and professionals from within and beyond the institution.

The workshop which was held at the College of Medical Sciences Lecture Theatre Complex Modibbo Adama University, Yola centred on the theme: "Understanding Job Market Trends, Career Development and Employability Skills” a subject widely regarded as critical to bridging the gap between university education and the demands of today's labour market.

In his welcome address, the Director of the Centre, Prof. Shehu Iya appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for his unwavering support towards the centre and for consistently providing an enabling environment for programmes of this nature to thrive.

Additionally, Prof. Iya stated that, the centre will collaborate with the Directorate of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance to introduce a zero-unit course on Career Development, in order to prepare undergraduate students for the future.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ibrahim Umar, described the initiative as timely, stressing the urgent need for academics and graduates alike to align themselves with technological advancements in an increasingly digital world.

He charged all participants to be technologically inclined, noting that the future of work would leave no room for those unwilling to adapt.

Four distinguished scholars delivered papers on targeted sub-themes. Prof. Isaac Ediba, Dean of Students, Gombe State University, was the Lead Presenter. He set the tone with an in-depth exploration of skills acquisition and development in contemporary times.

Prof. A.U. Alkali, Deputy Director, Centre for Distance Learning, Modibbo Adama University discussed on Networking, mentorship, career opportunities and self-assessment.

Dr. Hussaini Momoh Lawan, HOD General Education Department, American University of Nigeria, Yola, made his presentation on innovative strategies for improving graduate employability.

Prof. A.T. Umar, Head of Department of Economics at MAU, Yola rounded off the academic sessions with a comprehensive analysis of job market trends.

Giving the vote of thanks, the Director of the Career Service Centre, Prof. Shehu Iya, expressed his appreciation for the presenters for their insightful contributions and thanked all participants for gracing the occasion.

The workshop, facilitated by Concepts Consults and Research Services Limited, was well attended by the principal officers of the university, professors, and several dignitaries.

Highlight of the workshop was question and answer session, professional discussions and group photograph.
