The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Gombe State University Branch, successfully held its 2025/2026 Academic Session Fresh Students’ Orientation Programme on Saturday, 25th April 2026, at the Old Multipurpose Hall of Gombe State University.
The programme, initially scheduled to commence earlier in the day, began at exactly 11:00 AM due to the statewide environmental sanitation exercise, which restricted movement until 10:00 AM. Despite this delay, the event recorded an impressive turnout of fresh students and distinguished guests.
The orientation commenced with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an, setting a spiritually uplifting tone for the programme. This was followed by a welcoming address delivered by the Ameer, MSSN GSU on behalf of the MSSN Staff Adviser, who was unavoidably absent.
Subsequently, an overview of the MSSN and its objectives was presented by the General Secretary of the MSSN on behalf of another staff adviser, enlightening the fresh students on the mission, vision, and activities of the society within the university.
The programme featured two impactful presentations. The first presentation, titled *“Navigating Your First Year: Tips and Expectations for Fresh Students,”* was delivered by Professor Saleh Abdu, who provided valuable guidance to help students successfully transition into university life.
This was followed by the second presentation titled *“Managing Academic Excellence, Leadership Roles, and Upholding Moral and Religious Values – A Guide for Fresh Students,”* delivered by Professor Rasheed Abdulganiy, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics). His session emphasised the importance of balancing academics, leadership responsibilities, and moral discipline.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to the winners of the Freshers of the Year Quiz Competition, which was conducted as part of the orientation activities.
The programme also featured words of advice from selected guests, who encouraged the fresh students to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to both their academic and spiritual growth.
The event concluded with a closing remark by the Ameer of MSSN, Gombe State University Branch, Hafiz Abubakar Abu Ubaidah Bajoga followed by a closing prayer offered by the President/Khalipha of the Tijjaniyya Muslim Students Association of Nigeria (TIMSAN), Gombe State University Chapter.
