The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has said that it is making efforts to ensure that some of the benefits enjoyed by federal universities are extended to federal polytechnics and state-owned institutions as well.
National President of NANS, Sunday Asefon made this known during a visit to the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti, Dr Hephzibah Oladebeye.
Mr Sunday remarked that the student association will also ensure quality welfare for students in all parts of the country.

He said, "I met with the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, on the need for the Federal Government to extend the hand of fellowship it has extended to some Federal Universities on road networks to Federal Polytechnics and other state tertiary institutions that are yet to benefit.

"I also discussed with him on how to help the tertiary institutions to have benefitting hostels. Looking at what is going on, the management alone cannot do it and once they are under pressure, the students will be at the receiving end. These are the issues we are going to discuss with stakeholders at every level".

Primary school teachers in Oyo state have protested the non-payment of grants for primary schools in the state by taking to their blackboards to write down examination questions.
The teachers under the aegis of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo state chapter, on Monday, 21 December said examination questions for pupils were written on blackboards because the state government had yet to give primary schools across the state running grants.

According to the union, primary schools in the state had not received grants for two consecutive terms, while secondary schools had not received grants for the just concluded first term.

They urged the state government to execute its free education policy, adding that the NUT has held a meeting with the state government officials on the matter, and nothing has been done yet.
