Taraba State Polytechnic students bag Gen. T.Y. Buratai Award for Poetry and Prose Competition.
Two students from Taraba State Polytechnic Suntai have won the Gen. T. Y. Buratai award for the poetry and prose competition in the senior category.
The 3rd edition of the Northeast festival of literature, culture, and creativity, which took place at Gombe state university, was organized by Halima Factor Community initiative, an NGO based in Gombe state.
The week-long event began on November 12, 2023, and ended on November 18, 2023, in State University, Gombe.
The winner in the senior category on spoken rendition Biskilla Joseph, an ND two student in the department of mass communication, emerged as the winner in the senior category after presenting a poem titled "My Culture, My Identity"
Her rendition, which revolved around the Mumuye culture, levelled her opponents, and she received a cash prize of #200, 000 for her brilliant performances.
In the same vain, Magdalene Jonah, also an ND two student in the department of mass communication, contested in prose writing and took the second position.
Her victory came after submitting an online piece of prose that qualified her to participate in the competition.
Meanwhile, at the competition arena, all contestants in that category were subjected to an instant writing contest with strict supervision to ensure the authenticity of their submission.
The 3rd edition of the Northeast Festival of Literature, Culture, and Creativity 2023 was tagged "My Culture, My Identity."
The participants were drawn from higher institutions of learning in the Northeast, both from lower and upper schools in the region.
It could be recalled that the maiden edition of the competition took place in 2021, and Taraba state polytechnic won the 1st position through the spoken word poetry rendition by Hafiza Abdulwahab in the department of mass communication.
Speaking with newsmen in Gombe after the event, Biskilla Joseph expressed her gratitude as she emerged as the first winner.
" This is my happiest day in life. I'm highly excited that I've made it in this competition", she said.
She also gives kudos to her lecturers, Mr. Cosmos Johnson and, the polytechnic management under the stewardship of Dr. Ayuba Ibrahim Abarshi for giving them the opportunity to demonstrate their talents.
