TRIBUTE TO LATE MALAM SALLAU IBRAHIM- AN EXEMPLARY STAFF AND LOYAL FRIEND
By Haruna Aliyu
It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that I received the news of the death of Malam Sallau Ibrahim of the Registrar’s Office, who passed away yesterday, 18th May, 2026. I came to know Malam Sallau in 2006 when he was serving as the Messenger to the Registrar, Malam Faruk Yanganau. At that time, I was working with Northern Nigeria Flour Mills. Together with a colleague, I came to Bayero University Kano to obtain an employment application form from the then Establishment Division.
Unfortunately, despite visiting the office twice, we were informed that the distribution of forms had closed. After pleading unsuccessfully with the officer in charge, we left the office disappointed. However, as we were leaving the Administrative Building, a kind-looking elderly man followed us and gently told us not to be offended. He assured us that he would assist us by giving us the forms to complete and return to him. That compassionate and generous individual was none other than Malam Sallau Ibrahim. We collected the forms and appreciated his kindness and warm reception. Little did I know then that through that very form, I would eventually secure an appointment into Bayero University Kano.
After joining the University as an Administrative Officer in the Establishment Division, my relationship with Malam Sallau grew stronger. He became a source of guidance and support whenever we sought clarification or a deeper understanding of Registry matters. Even after his transfer to the University Health Services, he remained close and supportive. I also had the privilege of working closely with him in the Union when I was elected Chairman of SSANU and Malam Sallau was elected Assistant Secretary.
Throughout our association, he proved himself to be a loyal, respectful, hardworking, and generous person. He was humble, friendly, and always willing to assist others. Malam Sallau contributed immensely to my success at Bayero University Kano. Beyond the workplace, he maintained a close relationship with my family and often visited my mother to greet her. Such gestures reflected his caring nature and deep sense of humanity.
Words cannot adequately express my gratitude to Malam Sallau Ibrahim for all he did for me and many others. My prayer is that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings, rewards his good deeds abundantly, and grants him Aljannatul Firdaus.
May Allah also comfort and bless the family he left behind and give them the strength to bear this irreparable loss. Indeed, Bayero University Kano has lost a dedicated and dependable staff member, while I have personally lost a supporter and a true friend. I will greatly miss Malam Sallau Ibrahim, Head of Special Services Unit, Registrar’s Office.
Malam Sallau Ibrahim initially served as an Executive Officer and Personal Assistant to former Registrar, Malam Faruk Yanganau. He later enrolled in a degree programme at the School of Continuing Education (SCE), where he obtained his degree. Following this achievement, he converted to the Administrative cadre and rose through the ranks before his death as a Senior Assistant Registrar I.
