HAPPY WORLD RADIO DAY 2026 📻

We shall always need sound without image as part of our right to interpret for ourselves.

In the age of digital media, paradoxically, one advantage of radio is that it is not accompanied by the image. The chief quality of modern media – imagery - seems so realistic is actually its main flaw because it inhibits our imagination and our capacity to stand back and think.

Radio is in fact the media that is closest to the people. It still reaches more people than any other media. In Africa, eighty percent to ninety percent of homes have a working radio set. In 2016, more people worldwide listened to radio than watched television or used smartphones. One does not have to be able to read to listen to radio, and it can reach very small communities by broadcasting in their language.

In an effort to promote access to information via radio, UNESCO, in 2011, proclaimed that World Radio Day would be celebrated on February 13 every year. The date is symbolic, as this was the day on which United Nations Radio was created, in 1946. This UNESCO resolution was adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2013.

Journalists like her are just doing their job, asking tough questions to get the real scoop.

It's not personal, it's just journalism 🔍. Maishanu and others like her might not be used to the heat, but that's what makes the interview worthwhile.

As a practicing journalist, that is the nature of our job to be bold and courageous in asking bomb questions that would bring out pieces of information.

She is doing her job and doing it professionally.

Journalists like Maishanu isn't everyday feeding bottle 🍼 journalists conducting staged interview ooo
