ISDEVCOM Alumni Elects Pioneer Executive Committee
The Alumni Association of the Institute of Strategic and Development Communication (ISDEVCOM), of Nasarawa State University, Keffi has elected a new executive to pioneer its activities for the next two years.
The election which was held virtually on Friday, 7th June, 2024 saw Mr. George Ndukwu, Executive Director at Development Communication Nigeria Initiative emerge as the National President, while Mrs. Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, a Deputy News Editor and State House correspondent of the Sun, was voted in as Vice President.
Others elected into the alumni executive include Dr. Michael Innocent, Public Relations Manager at Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) who emerged as Secretary General and Mrs. Ijeoma Okoronkwo, General Manager and Board Secretary at Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) who became the financial secretary.
Multi-talented Nollywood great, Chief Francis Duru, was returned elected as Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the association while Emmanuel Onchono, an Assistant Registrar at Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) became the Welfare and Social Secretary.
Another Nollywood great, Dr. Azubuike Erinugha, Executive Director at Framework and Advocacy Development (FAD) Initiative was elected as treasurer while Barr. (Dr) EphraimOkon, Country Director of Population Media/Nigeria, joins the executive committee as the legal adviser.
While Wale Makanjuola, an Independent Public Engagement Consultant was returned elected as Provost, Ako Abbah of the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) was returned as the auditor, and Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu, Head of Corporate Communications at United Nigeria Airlines was elected to become Alumni Community Relations Officer.
Also, Dr. Uankhueche, Moses Agbonifo, Assistant Director Human Resource Management (HRM) Department and Dr. Emmanuel Ogu, Deputy Director Security Services Department, both of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) were returned as Ex-officio members. Others are Miller DantaWaye, Fatima Wameh Dabugat and Mrs. Alu Azege.
Dr. Onwusoro Maduka, a Director at Federal Ministry of Housing, Pita Obam, a Social and Behaviour Change Communication Consultant to UNICEF, Chioma Agwuegbo, the Executive Director of TechHERNG and Nkechi Ilochi-Kanny, a Director of Resource Mobilization at ActionAID Nigeria also made the list.
Blessing Unekwu Agada, Prudence Eboagwu-Ijah, and Jennifer Akor Damar were also voted into the executive committee as ex-officio members.
Speaking shortly after the election, President of the Alumni Association, Mr. Ndukwu thanked all who participated in the process and urged the new executive committee to commit to institutionalising the association through impactful programmes at ISDEVCOM and within the university community.
The Director of the Institute of Strategic and Development Communication, Prof. Emmanuel Dandaura congratulated the newly elected exco members and expressed confidence in their purposeful leadership and contributions to the ISDEVCOM Alumni community.
"Your dedication and commitment to the advancement of the Institute individually overtime has no doubt contributed to the confidence that your alumni members reposed on your ability to deliver on the mandate of your new positions in the executive committee'' he said. He urged the new exco to ''build a body that your congress will rally round the leadership and your executive committee will in turn partner and map out ways to support the Institute as well as the Nasarawa State University community.
