Dear Teacher,

I'm sure you know that the learners in your care have a high regard for you.

They trust you and they believe that whatever you teach them is the right thing.

Sometimes, they are willing to go toe-to-toe with their parents in proving that they are right in believing what you taught them.

They want to believe that teachers know everything.

Please, do not betray their trust.

Before going into that class, be sure of what you are to teach them.

Make adequate research to ensure that what will be taught is the right thing and the truth.

When a learner asks you a question that you do not know at that time, instead of giving him a wrong answer to save face, why not tell him that you'd provide the answer at the end of the lesson?

While they're still writing, you can make research on it on your phone and then answer the question.

If you're teaching in a school where you are not allowed to be in class with your phone and such a situation comes up, you can kindly say, "That is a nice question. I will give you a detailed answer in the next class."

Go home and make sure to do your research.

Then answer the question in the next class.

If you had once provided a wrong answer to a question and later realized your mistake, be humble.

Go back to the class and make the correction.

Teachers are not perfect.

Teachers also make mistakes (but try hard to reduce the number of mistakes you make while teaching).

May God reward you abundantly.

*Happy Resumption*

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Lagos (UNILAG)
chapter, has sanctioned 240 members for enrolling into the federal
government’s Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS)
initiative opposed by the union.
The resolution, which was arrived at during the ASUU-UNILAG congress held on
December 29, 2020, was signed by Dele Ashiru, the union’s chairman at the
varsity, and Olusegun Samuel, its secretary.
The varsity’s chapter of the union said the sanctioned lecturers can no longer
be trusted by ASUU members to hold any position within the institution.
The union added that those sanctioned would also no longer enjoy the support
and votes of its members where necessary in the future.
“As a consequence of their actions and the implications as described above, it
is hereby resolved unanimously by the Congress of ASUU-UNILAG held on
December 29, 2020 that these underlisted members of ASUU-UNILAG cannot be
trusted to advance, protect and defend the interest of members of ASUU-
UNILAG in any position within the University,” the resolution read.
“Hence, they cannot be trusted with any position of responsibilities for which
the votes of our members are required now and in the future.
“It is the resolution of Congress that the under listed members shall therefore
not enjoy the support and votes of members of ASUU-UNILAG in any election
(s) they stand for now or in the future.”
ASUU and the federal government had been at loggerheads over the use of the
IPPIS.
The union had rejected the initiative on the ground that it infringes on university
autonomy and does not capture the remuneration of staff on sabbatical,
external examiners, external assessors, and Earned Academic Allowances
(EAA).
ASUU had instead proposed the University Transparency and Accountability
Solution (UTAS) for payment.

Ebonyi deputy governor, Kelechi Igwe said it was tough deciding to cross over
to the APC with the governor, Dave Umahi because he, as well as many other
government officials did not like the ruling party.
Leading other state executive members to pay a Christmas homage to the
governor in his Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area country home on
Tuesday, Mr. Igwe recounted how they foot-dragged on the decision but had
limited time to make widespread consultation.
“When you announced that it was time to move on, a lot of us were foot-
dragging, wanting to make consultations but at the end, decided to move with
you,” NAN quoted Mr. Igwe to have said.
“I must confess that some of us didn’t like the APC but decided to join it
because of you, so we are declaring that you must contest the 2023
presidential election.”
Responding, Mr. Umahi advised his visitors to continue to remain loyal to his
administration and not indulge in any acts of betrayal, in spite of the
circumstance.
The governor pleaded with the executive members to continue to stay steadfast
with him though “there is a Judas in every 12.”
He said unstable politicians are never taken seriously. He also reiterated that
the APC is the party where Igbos can “property evaluate” themselves.
Mr. Umahi was twice elected on the platform of opposition PDP but defected
from the party in November, citing “injustice being done to South-East by the
PDP.”
Though he has denied it, many believes the Ebonyi governor defected to the
APC to realise his presidential ambition.
