CEFTER–MOAUM Holds Stakeholders Meeting Preparatory for CEFMART Agro-E-Commerce Platform Launch

The Centre for Food Technology and Research (CEFTER), Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University (MOAUM) has convened a stakeholders meeting towards the rollout of its new Agricultural e-Commerce Platform—CEFMART. The Acting Director of CEFTER, Prof. Ogbene Igbum explained that the platform aims to strengthen agricultural marketing by providing a seamless, transparent, and trusted digital marketplace that links farmers, vendors, and consumers. She noted that CEFMART as an innovation was conceived over two years ago and is nearing full implementation and encouraged stakeholders to submit detailed feedback to guide the formulation of an effective implementation plan.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio University, Professor Emmanuel Kenen represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Otor Eriba commended CEFTER for the initiative and urged the developers to ensure that the platform remains accessible to rural farmers.
Also present at the stakeholders meeting were other CEFTER team members, platform developers, NAFDAC, the Bureau of Agriculture Development and Mechanization, Nigeria Agricultural Insurance Corporation, Bank of Industry, National Board for Technology Incubation, Novus Microfinance Bank, the Rice Farmers Association, Benue Links, and other professional bodies, representatives of key government agencies, financial institutions, farmers’ associations, transport and legal sectors.
The platform designers presented an overview of CEFMART, describing it as a unified agro-commerce solution that supports transparent pricing, secure payments, efficient delivery, and improved market access for farmers and agribusinesses
Stakeholders expressed satisfaction with the progress made and offered constructive recommendations, agreeing to submit further inputs in writing. They also emphasized that government support will be essential for the success and scalability of the platform.
With this engagement, CEFTER moves a step closer to launching CEFMART, a platform positioned to transform agricultural marketing and strengthen the agricultural value chain across the region.

*CEFTER, MOAUM MAKES STRIDES IN HUMANITARIAN PARTNERSHIP*

The Centre for Food Technology and Research (CEFTER) at Rev Father Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi, has taken a significant step towards strengthening its collaboration with the government sector. The Management of CEFTER paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Benue State Government.

Led by the Ag. Director, Prof Ogbene Igbum , the team comprising the Deputy Director/Director, Research and Collaboration Prof Sylvester Adejo , the Secretary Dr Scholastica Banka, and PAR (Administration) Bill Usha Hemba , was received by the Commissioner, Hon Kunde Aondowase, who expressed the state's interest in partnering with CEFTER, particularly in the food industry.

The Commissioner specifically highlighted the Centre's Tom Brown product as an area of interest, noting that the state government is willing to collaborate with CEFTER to boost production. The Management team, while appreciating the warm reception, assured the government of CEFTER's commitment to delivering quality services and expertise.

This partnership is expected to open new avenues for CEFTER to showcase its research and training capabilities, while contributing to the development of Benue State and Nigeria at large.

CEFTER, MOAUM EXPLORE PARTNERSHIP WITH BIPC, AND CHONGQING ON CITRUS CONCENTRATE

In a significant development, the Centre for Food Technology and Research (CEFTER) at Rev Father Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi, is set to collaborate with the Benue Investment and Property Company (BIPC) and Chonging Agricultural Products Group on a citrus concentrate export project.

A meeting held on Wednesday, 3rd December, 2025, at the BIPC head office in Makurdi, brought together the Ag. Director of CEFTER, Prof Ogbene Igbum , and the Managing Director of BIPC Dr Raymond Asemakaa and his business team, among others. The meeting discussed a proposal from Chongqing Agricultural Products Group, seeking substantial and regular supplies of citrus concentrates, pulps, and neutral flavors.

Prof Igbum who led the MOAUM CEFTER team provided a brief on the roles of BIPC and CEFTER on the proposed business with Chongqing Agricultural Products Group Co.Ltd. She pointed out that, BIPC are to produce the concentrates while CEFTER will analyze and certify the products for for export. BIPC welcomed the proposal, citing the lucrative global market for citrus concentrates. The MD equally urged CEFTER to expedite its laboratory certification processing by NAFDAC and other relevant bodies as this will enabled BIPC to leverage the Centre's expertise and generate revenue for CEFTER, MOAUM and the State.

The CEFTER MOAUM team made up of Dr Elijah Kpanor, Director on Linkages,Moses Orshio Adasu University,Makurdi as an anchor along with Prof Sylvester Adejo, the Deputy Centre Leader / DDR&C,Dr Scholastica Banka , Secretary and Dr Atov Chief Technologist. In Attendance on the CEFTER team were: Bill Usha Hemba (PAR) Administration, Engr Prince Ijir Aondosoo (Tech Expert) and Mr Ode Ezekiel ,(Lab Tech)

Both parties agreed that a business proposal be drafted to formalize the partnership, paving the way for a mutually beneficial collaboration.

UNIBEN Students and Staff Arrive at CEFTIC Fr. Adasu University (formerly Benue State University) for a special Internship Program.

In a significant milestone for the Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, a group of students and staff from the University of Benin (UNIBEN) arrived on Monday to embark on a one-month internship program at the CEFTER Food Technology and Innovation Complex (CEFTIC),Fr. Adasu University.

This pioneering program marks a major achievement for CEFTIC, which was designed to serve as a student teaching industrial hub operating on a small commercial scale. The complex aims to provide hands-on experience and practical training to students in food science and technology.

Dr. Peter from the UNIBEN Faculty of Food Sciences expressed his excitement about the program, stating that this is the first of its kind in Nigeria. He encouraged other universities with food science faculties to take advantage of CEFTIC's innovative facilities and expertise.

"We are thrilled to be part of this groundbreaking program," Dr. Peter said. "CEFTIC's state-of-the-art facilities and industry-experienced instructors will provide our students with unparalleled practical real time industrial training. We urge other universities to seize this opportunity and send their students to benefit from this innovative complex."

The internship program will cover various aspects of food processing, preservation, and safety, including biscuit and bread production, tomato paste processing, and vegetable processing. Participants will also receive training in food business management and entrepreneurship.

CEFTER’s innovative approach to student training and industry collaboration is set to revolutionize food science education in Nigeria. The complex's small commercial scale operation will enable students to gain practical experience in a real-world setting, preparing them for the demands of the food industry.

"We are delighted to host the UNIBEN students and staff," said Prof. Barnabas Achakpa Ikyô, Director CEFTIC "This internship program marks a significant step towards achieving our objective of providing practical training and industry exposure to students OF food Science and Agriculture on the African continent. We look forward to collaborating with other universities and contributing to the growth of the food industry in Nigeria."

As the first batch of postgraduate students and staff from UNIBEN settles into their internship program, they join over 60 students from six other institutions on the program. CEFTER is set to become a hub for food science innovation and training in Nigeria. Other universities with food science faculties are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity and send their students to benefit from CEFTIC's expertise and facilities.

The Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University Makurdi, (formaly Benue State University) Centre for Food Technology and Research (CEFTER) is one of Seventeen World Bank African Centres of Excellence in Nigeria. CEFTER is mandated to train manpower in a focused area of control of Post- harvest losses of food crops.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admissions in the new academic year of the Centre commencing from October, 2025.
Sales of application forms shall commence (on-line) from 26th May 2025 – 30th
July, 2025.
Method of Application
i. Applicants are to visit the CEFTER website www.cefterbsu.edu.ng (Under Course); click on ‘application form’ and complete pre-registration information, make payment of non- refundable fee of N15,000 online or at any Fidelity Bank (ACC No.6060310946) using the name on their application.
ii. Applicants will receive confirmation e-mail when they have submitted the form.
After payment is received, your application forms will be processed.
Candidates should endeavor to forward transcripts of their current qualifications to the Admission Officer, Centre for Food Technology and Research, Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University Makurdi.

Five O’ level credit passes including English Language and Mathematics. Academic Masters in relevant areas with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a 5- point scale from any recognized University.

BREAKING: CEFTER-BSU Graduate Wins Big at 2025 Agro and Food Processing Exhibition

Dr. Dorcas Nguemo Kundam, a proud PhD graduate of Food Processing Technology from the Centre for Food Technology and Research (CEFTER) at Benue State University (BSU), has been selected the overall winner of the 2025 Agro and Food Processing Exhibition in Benue State. The exhibition, which held at IBB Square in Makurdi, showcased innovative agro products from 20 inventors and was organized by the Benue State Government through key ministries and the Bureau for Entrepreneurship Development and Wealth Creation.

Dr. Kundam's outstanding achievement earned her a prize money of five million naira, along with other benefits. This recognition highlights CEFTER-BSU's commitment to fostering innovation and excellence in food processing technology.

The Centre for Food Technology and Research (CEFTER) at Benue State University is a World Bank African Centre of Excellence, focused on training manpower in post-harvest loss control and food processing.
