It is a tradition at KWASU to meet with representatives of neighbouring communities during our convocation.

We usually seize the opportunity to highlight all the University’s community development interventions for the year, harvest the needs of the communities and document same so as to form part of our plan for the coming year.

This year, the all-inclusive community meeting was held yesterday and every neighbouring community was represented. We made it clear that while the University will keep doing all it could to facilitate development in the area, we can’t promise to meet all their needs as we are not in the best position to do that.

Some of of the interventions implemented by our staff, students and alumni in the year (2021) are;

Teaching and research works in tertiary institutions must reflect community needs.

The Dada pottery in Ilorin is one of the businesses that need deliberate and strategic interventions for them to grow. To assist the women in the business, the academic staff of the Faculty of Visual and Performing Arts were at Okelele, to actualise one of the intents of the founding fathers of the KWARA STATE UNIVERSITY, MALETE.

They constructed a pottery moulding machine, using local materials from the scratch to enhance pottery production in the State.

Kudos to the entire Participatory Action Research team and the staff of the KWASU Centre for Community Development.

When you have a leader who gives you the space to do your job, you will achieve the unthinkable. Thank you our VC, Muhammed Akanbi for your supportive leadership style.

Community development at KWASU is a covenant between the staff and students on one hand and various communities in the State on the other hand.

We intervene based on our very meagre resources. We know we can’t do it all but we won’t sit and watch.

Our Microbiology Students, after assessing some of the needs of the Malete Pilot Primary School. donated furniture and other items to the school as part of their Enhanced Students’ Community Outreach Mentorship (ESCOM).
