THE FORGOTTEN LEGEND OF GBAGYI NATION
Dr. Adamu WALO, like Dr. Mamman Shatta and Dr. Dan Maraya, were conferred an honorary doctorate degree in the entertainment industry despite not having any formal education. Dr. Adamu WALO, better known by his stage name Bwalo Shattan Gwari, is a Gbagyi music legend and icon whose music has stood the test of time. He was invited to England to entertain the Queen, and Her Majesty the Queen bestowed an automobile (car) onto this legend. He was blind, yet with his blind eyes by a mention of your name, he will identify you, your parents, your grandparents, in fact your ancestral lineage
The end story of this magnificent Mulo performer, his family, Kuta, Shiroro local government of Niger state, and the entire Gbagyi race has been truly horrible and regrettable, as nothing has been done to commemorate this classic singer. Despite the fact that the Gbagyi people continue to play, enjoy, and dance to Walo's tones and singing, no building, street, or art center is named after him to commemorate his legacy.
Walo is still the finest when it comes to Gbagyi riddles, idioms, grammar, and wise sayings, among other things. As he plays the strings and beats the skin of his Mulo instrument with intensity, his words pe*****te the human system like a hypodermic needle and descend to the heart.
Here is the big question, What is the Ministry of Art and Culture of Niger, Kaduna, Nasarawa State, and the Entertainment Industry of the Federal Capital Territory doing to preserve and honor this legend?
Music is a cultural component that must be preserved. Dr. Walo (Bwalo), also known as Shattan Gwari, should be listened to and learned from by young Gbagyi musicians like Bello Kata, Orah among others. It is also important for Young Gbagyi folks who want to learn Gbagyi grammar, idioms, and proverbs should listen to Dr. Walo's music to make learning and assimilation easier.
