NIGERIANS STUDENTS GIVE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT 14-DAYS TO ANNOUNCE SCHOOL RESUMPTION DATE.

Students of tertiary institutions are mounting pressure on the Federal Government to fix a date for resumption of schools within two weeks OR face Massive Protest.

The students faulted the Federal Government’s handling of school reopening amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the aggrieved students, there was no need to pause WASSCE process as social distancing can be observed while writing WASSCE.

The ultimatum was given by groups comprising the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), National Association of University Students (NAUS) and National Association of Colleges of Education Students (NANCES), at a virtual meeting.

They called on the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu, to reconsider the participation of Nigerian students in the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE). They noted that it doesn’t seem like coronavirus would be eradicated anytime soon, hence activities need to resume even if with measures put in place to guide against the spread of the virus.

The students in their disgruntled state asked that the government also stop salaries of University Teachers and other officials for advocating the continued closure of schools without proffering solutions to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Benue State University's Vice Chancellor tests positive for COVID-19.

The Vice Chancellor of Benue State University (BSU) Makurdi, Professor Moses Msugh, has confirmed that he tested positive for covid-19

He made the confirmation on his verified Facebook account on Thursday.

“On Monday, 29th June, 2020, my test result for the COVID-19 returned positive. “I had fever and body fatigue the previous week, I have been in isolation since I found out about my positive exposure to the virus. “I am of course managing the virus now.

I must at this point express my appreciation to the Executive Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom and also the state taskforce on COVID-19 headed by the deputy governor, Benson Abounu for their timely support to ensure I get the required medical attention.

“Staff of Benue State University and close associates are urged to check themselves, isolate and be pragmatic. “The virus don’t move, we move it. Take responsibility,” the VC stated.

Meanwhile, the authority of the University had on Tuesday fumigated the institution’s premises amidst rumour that the VC and top management staff of the University had tested positive to coronavirus.

But, the institution’s Principal Assistant Registrar (Information & Public Relations), Tser Vanger, had in statement refuted the report, stating, that the insinuation were unfounded.
