COLLEGE SUCCESSFULLY CONDUCTS CBT EXAMINATIONS FOR NCE STUDENTS ACROSS CAMPUSES

The College has successfully conducted its Computer-Based Test (CBT) examinations for NCE students as part of the College’s transition to digital-based assessment for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The examinations, which covered both Education (EDU) and General Studies (GSC) courses, were simultaneously held at the Main Campus and the Bebi Campus, with students participating actively in the exercise.

The successful conduct of the examinations marked another important milestone in the College’s commitment to modernizing its academic and examination processes through technology-driven solutions. Students were observed confidently navigating the computer systems, reflecting the impact of the earlier demo CBT exercise organized by the College to prepare candidates ahead of the exams.

The Director of ICT, Mr. Nick Agba, alongside members of the ICT team, monitored activities at both centres to ensure smooth and hitch-free operations throughout the examination period. Technical support staff were also deployed across the campuses to provide immediate assistance where necessary.

College management expressed satisfaction with the coordination, organization, and level of students’ adaptation to the CBT format. The management noted that the initiative is aimed at improving efficiency, enhancing transparency in examinations, and aligning the College with global best practices in educational assessment.

Students who participated in the examinations commended the College for providing a conducive environment and adequate orientation ahead of the exams. Many described the CBT process as faster, easier, and more convenient than they initially expected.

Some students also praised the College for successfully managing the examinations simultaneously across both campuses without major technical challenges, describing the exercise as a significant achievement for the College.

The smooth conduct of the EDU and GSC CBT examinations further demonstrates the College’s preparedness and growing capacity to fully integrate digital technology into its academic system. With the successful implementation across the Main Campus and Bebi Campus, the College has taken another bold step toward advancing innovation and excellence in education delivery.

The session, organized by the College, was marked by heartfelt tributes, reflections, and emotional moments as speakers recounted the remarkable life and legacy of a man whose journey in the College remains a shining example of dedication, resilience, humility, and service.

Among the dignitaries present was the Chairman of the 8th Governing Council of the College, Hon. Overcome with emotions at the remembrance of his departed colleague and friend, the Chairman was unable to deliver his tribute personally. The Provost of the College, Dr. Richard Ugbaha Utubaku, in his tribute, described the late academic as a symbol of perseverance and excellence. Tributes poured in from prominent members of the College, Governing Council members, management staff, academic and non-academic staff. Speakers took turns to describe the deceased as a humble, disciplined, and compassionate man who impacted countless lives through teaching, mentorship, and administrative service.

Many speakers particularly highlighted his uncommon rise from a clerical position to becoming one of the respected academic voices in the College, describing his story as inspiring and worthy of emulation by younger generations.

During a short word of exhortation, Dr. Joseph Fatoba charged members of the College community to remain vigilant against unfriendly foes and continually seek divine guidance in all their dealings. He emphasized the need for prayers and spiritual discernment, noting that life remains unpredictable and that wisdom from God is essential in navigating relationships and challenges.

He urged the gathering to live uprightly, maintain good conscience, and strive to leave positive legacies just as the late Comrade Akpereka did during his lifetime.

The election, held within the department, featured two respected academic figures: Dr. Mrs. Stella Ekwutosi Nkwocha and Dr. Grace Patrick Kayang. Both candidates brought forward their experience, vision, and dedication to advancing the department’s academic standards and administrative effectiveness.

Declaring the process open, the Dean, School of General Education, Dr. Opie Oko Ngaji, addressed the gathering with remarks that underscored the significance of the occasion. He explained that the election aligns with the institution’s Dual Mandate guideline, which empowers departments to democratically select their leaders. According to him, this approach strengthens institutional autonomy and ensures that leadership reflects the collective will of the department.

Dr. Ngaji emphasized the importance of unity, cautioning against allowing the electoral process to create divisions. Instead, he urged all staff members to view the election as an opportunity to reinforce collaboration and move the department forward, regardless of the outcome.

Following his remarks, both candidates presented their manifestos. Each outlined strategic plans focused on academic excellence, staff development, student engagement, and strengthening the department’s reputation. Their presentations reflected not only their competence but also their passion for service and growth.

The election proceeded with due process: accreditation of voters, followed by voting conducted in an orderly and transparent manner. Members of the department cast their votes, demonstrating active participation in shaping their leadership.

At the conclusion of the voting exercise, results were announced:

Dr. Grace Patrick Kayang — 5 votes

Dr. Mrs. Stella Ekwutosi Nkwocha — 9 votes

With a clear majority, Dr. Stella Ekwutosi Nkwocha was declared the newly elected Head of Department.

The event was attended by key academic and administrative figures, including Dr. Abdulateef Ambali, Head of Educational Psychology; Dr. Benjamin Odey, Head of Education Foundation; Mr. Chukwuma E. Onwuoku, Acting Director of Information and Public Relations; Comr. Terna Iwen, COEASU Representative; and Dr. Paulinus Olumba, the outgoing Head of Department, alongside other staff members.

The atmosphere throughout the exercise reflected mutual respect and institutional pride. As the department transitions into a new phase under Dr. Nkwocha’s leadership, there is a shared expectation that her tenure will build on existing achievements while introducing fresh ideas to elevate the department further.

The election not only produced a new leader but also reaffirmed the college commitment to democratic values, unity, and academic excellence.

COLLEGE CONDUCTS SUCCESSFUL DEMO CBT AHEAD OF 2025/2026 EXAMINATIONS

Students of the College today participated in a Computer-Based Test (CBT) demonstration exercise held at the Dr. Joseph Wayas e-Library, marking a significant step toward the College transition to digital examinations.

The exercise, organized as a test run, is part of preparations for the full rollout of CBT examinations for General Studies (GSC) and Education (EDU) courses in the upcoming 2025/2026 academic session. The initiative reflects the College’s commitment to embracing technology-driven learning and assessment systems.

Despite the day being a public holiday, the Director of ICT, Mr. Nick Agba, was physically present alongside his technical team to oversee the smooth conduct of the exercise. Their presence ensured that all systems functioned optimally and that any technical issues were promptly addressed.

Also present at the demo were key academic and technical stakeholders, including Dr. Joseph Fatoba, Director of Academic Planning; Dr. Joseph Ukashia, Director of Quality Assurance; and Mr. Olisa, representing Zecoms. Their attendance underscored the importance the College places on ensuring quality, credibility, and technical efficiency in the transition to CBT examinations.

Speaking during the exercise, Mr. Agba emphasized that the demo was designed to familiarize students with the CBT environment, reduce anxiety, and identify potential challenges ahead of the official examinations. He noted that the College is determined to provide a seamless and efficient testing experience for all candidates.

Students who participated in the demo expressed excitement and optimism about the transition. Many described the experience as user-friendly and appreciated the opportunity to interact with the system before the actual exams. For several students, it was their first time taking an exam using a computer, and they welcomed the innovation as a step in the right direction.

“I feel more confident now,” one student remarked. “Using the computer was easier than I expected, and I’m glad we had this practice session.”

The successful conduct of the demo CBT underscores the College’s readiness to implement full-scale computer-based examinations. With the groundwork now laid, both staff and students appear well-prepared for the digital shift in assessment for the 2025/2026 session.

DR. RICHARD UGBAHA UTUBAKU HANDS OVER THE REHABILITATED ETF 2002 BLOCK (EB) TO DEAN DR. PETER ORIM UNDER THE 2025 TETFUND INTERVENTION.

The atmosphere within the College grounds carried a quiet sense of accomplishment as staff and administrators gathered to witness a significant milestone, the formal handover of the rehabilitated ETF 2002 Block (EB), a project executed under the 2025 TETFund Maintenance Intervention.

For years, the ETF Block had stood as a vital academic structure, though time and constant use had gradually worn down its facilities. Classrooms that once echoed with vibrant intellectual exchange had begun to show signs of fatigue, faded walls, aging fittings, and infrastructure that no longer reflected the standards the College aspired to uphold. The rehabilitation project, therefore, was not merely a physical upgrade; it symbolized renewal, progress, and a recommitment to academic excellence.

At the center of the occasion was the Provost, Dr. Richard Ugbaha Utubaku, whose leadership had been instrumental in facilitating the intervention. Standing before the refurbished building, he expressed both gratitude and pride as he formally received the structure from the contractor, Agims Nigeria Limited. His remarks reflected the broader vision of the College to create an environment where teaching and learning can thrive without limitations imposed by inadequate facilities.

The building itself stood transformed. Freshly painted walls gleamed under the daylight, modern fixtures had replaced outdated installations, and the overall ambiance spoke of careful craftsmanship and attention to detail. It was clear that the rehabilitation had not been cosmetic alone; it was thorough, deliberate, and aligned with the expectations of a forward-looking institution.

Without delay, the Provost carried out the next symbolic step, handing over the revitalized facility to the Dean of the School of Arts and Social Sciences, Dr. Peter Orim. This gesture underscored the building’s immediate return to academic use, particularly for the faculty that would benefit most directly from its improved condition. Dr. Orim, in receiving the building, acknowledged the significance of the moment and assured that the facility would be utilized and maintained responsibly for the benefit of both staff and students.

The event was further dignified by the presence of key members of the College community. Among them were Dr. Ezekiel Oji, Deputy Provost (Academics), whose role in ensuring academic standards made the improved learning environment especially meaningful; Dr. Elizabeth Betiang, whose presence reflected the collaborative spirit of the College; and Engr. Nnamdi Egwu and Engr. Ugemabiang Mike, and Eld. Kalu Okechukwu whose technical expertise resonated with the quality evident in the completed work.

Also present were Dr. Cyril and Mr. Agianpuye, alongside other members of staff who gathered not only as witnesses but as stakeholders in the College’s continued growth. Their attendance highlighted a shared sense of ownership and collective responsibility for sustaining the gains achieved through the intervention.

As conversations flowed and subtle smiles marked the success of the project, it became evident that the event was more than a routine administrative exercise. It was a reaffirmation of what can be accomplished through effective leadership, strategic partnerships, and institutional commitment.

The rehabilitated ETF 2002 Block now stands as a renewed hub of academic activity, a space where lectures will be delivered with renewed energy, ideas will be exchanged freely, and students will once again find inspiration within its walls. It represents a bridge between the College’s past and its future, preserving its legacy while embracing progress.

In the end, the handover was not just about a building. It was about restoration, of infrastructure, of confidence, and of the enduring belief that quality education deserves a quality environment.

Recognizing the weight of the responsibility, he prayed for courage and divine guidance to always do the right thing. He also expressed gratitude to the management and the 8th Governing Council for entrusting him with the position of Director of Works and Services, formally accepting the responsibility.

He concluded by praying for God’s continued guidance and protection upon Engr. Nnamdi Egwu.

The ceremony was attended by notable staff members, including Mr. Pius Karie, Mr. Emmanuel Chukwuma Onwuoku, Engr. Micheal Zegeate, Elder Kalu Okechukwu, Mr. Emmanuel Anake, Engr. Ufot Ubak, Engr. Ugemabiang Mike, and Mr. Abam Friday.
