>> Register with your details and fund your account

>> With as low as N1000 IMSU students can use the bike for a month around the school premises

"I didn't kill Usifo" - Chidinma

Amadi Glory

Murder Suspect Chidinma ojukwu has denied killing Super TV CEO Usifo Ataga in a recent video.

Barely four weeks after confessing to overpowering and stabbing Usifo to death, the 21 year old undergraduate recently insisted that she did not even injure the deceased or fight with him. She added that the act must have been carried out by an outsider because she was away to get food and drugs for them only to return to find Usifo in a pool of his blood.

She added that making a U-turn on her earlier confessions was not a result of anybody's influence or prodding and that she chose to plead guilty because at the time of her arrest, there was nobody who believed her and there was nothing she could do.

When asked why she did fled the apartment without reporting to the police, Chidinma said she was afraid she would be arrested as a suspect. She also said she withdrew the money from the deceased's account because he had already promised her before the incident.

However, Lagos State commissioner Hakeem Odumosu has dismissed the statements as an "afterthought" adding that he and his team would leave no stone unturned in their investigations.

CONNECTIVE TISSUE PROTEIN FIGHTS BACTERIAL INFECTION.

By Chiagoro Maria-Assumpta U.

A new study has revealed that connective tissue protein known to support the framework of organs also encourages immune responses can fight bacterial infections, while restraining responses that can be deadly in the condition called sepsis.

Led by researchers from NYU Grossman school of medicine,United States, the work revolves around the extra cellular matrix (ECM) of connective tissues, once thought of as an inert framework that shapes bodily compartments, but increasingly recognized as a signaling partner with nearby cells in normal function, and contributor to disease when signals go awry.

However, a protein-sugar combination (proteoglycan) secreated by for broblasts, and known to partner with collagen in connective tissues, also promotes immune system responses in immune cells called macrophages that fight bacterial infections.

Nnamdi Kanu: Truth means trouble- Soyinka

By Akaenyi Kenneth

Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka, says there would be an uproar in the country if the truth of how the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu was arrested becomes known.

Kanu was on Sunday, June 27, extradited to Nigeria to face trial after he jumped bail and fled the country in 2017.

Speaking with BBC Pidgin on Monday, the literary icon said the action by the Nigerian government could only be best described as “kidnap” and it is “internationally and morally wrong”.

“It’s not for me to tell the president to prepare itself because it’s going to be a huge squawk when the truth about how Kanu was arrested comes out. People are alleging this or that. That is one phase whether Nigeria has acted outside international law,” Soyinka said.

“The second issue, however, has to do with Kanu’s conduct outside the nation. There’s been a level of hate rhetoric which has been unfortunate, from Kanu. Hate rhetoric is an issue that can only be judged by the laws of any nation.

“Was it right ‘to have been kidnapped?’ You can say intercepted as much as you want but I think Kanu was kidnapped. That is wrong internationally and morally,” Soyinka said.

CAN,HURIWA,call for El-rufai's Resignation

By Akuwudike Florence

Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Human Rights Writers Association Of Nigeria (HURIWA) have called on Kaduna state governor Nasir El-Rufai to resign from office due to escalation of insecurity in the state.

This comes after 26 students were kidnapped by bandits at Bethel Baptist school, Maraban Rido, chikun local government area of Kaduna state.

Both groups insist that the governor has failed in his duties as the chief security officer of the state as evident in his refusal to negotiate with kidnappers.

Confirming the incident yesterday, Kaduna police command said that security operatives were on the trail of the bandits.

Chairman of CAN, Kaduna chapter, Rev. Joseph Hayab, who is a Baptist senior pastor, explained that students in the hostel’s register before the kidnap were 180, adding: “They counted the students this (Monday) morning and they said 174 could not be accounted for.”

He urged the governor to resign, if he could not handle the security of the state. But El-Rufai has described the incident as unfortunate and evil to humanity.
