The Eight Substantive Vice-Chancellor of FUTO, Prof. Mrs. Nnenna N. Oti has presented 30 million naira award to the eleven host communities of the University at Professor C.O.E Onwuliri Conference Centre, on 9th January 2024.

The Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is meant to cover the following schemes:
*Scholarship for Students of tertiary institutions.
*Poverty alleviation among indigent widows & youths.
*Community Project.

The benefitting Autonomous Communities are:

FUTO Convocates Total of 5735 Graduands..Confers Honoris Causa On 3 Illustrious Nigerians

On 2nd December 2023, a total of 5,735 graduands were awarded various degrees of the prestigious Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) in the 34th & 35th Combined Convocation Ceremony of the institution.

In her 12-page Address, the Eight Substantive Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mrs. Nnenna N. Oti stated that a total of 5091 and 644 graduands were awarded First Degrees and Higher Degrees, respectively.

Among the 5091, a total of 3865 graduated in the 2020/2021 Academic Session, whilst 1226 graduated in the 2021/2022 Session.

Prof. Oti disclosed that the overall Best Graduating Student for the 2020/2021 Class was Elochukwu Chukwubuikem of the Computer Science Department with the CGPA of 4.91 on a Scale of 5.00.

Similarly, the overall best Graduating Student for the Class of the 2021/2022 graduands was Anozie Ebube Henry of the Mathematics Department with a CGPA of 4.93, also on a Scale of 5.00.

On the other hand, award of Honorary Doctorate Degrees of the University was conferred on three eminent personalities, in recognition of their immense contributions to the development of education and humanity. They were announced as:
1. Engr. Chief Sir Chibuike Lawrence Achigbu
2. Engr. Chief Okezie Chikere Akwiwu
3. Mr. Abubakar Suleiman.

She therefore enjoined the Award recipients to endeavour to continually cultivate impeccable character and uphold most jealously, the good image of the great University by exhibiting excellence, integrity and honesty in their respective activities.

The VC further gladly announced that as part of FUTO’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and "in keeping with the University policy of fostering fraternal skaholders engagements" the University Council under her watch, recently instituted a Scholarship Scheme & Community Development cm Poverty Alleviation Project for the Host Communities.

According to her, the aforementioned Project is worth N30,000,000 annually.

FUTO Presents Convocation Lecture In Style..As The VC Applauds Lecturer

In line with the activities heralding the 34th & 35th Combined Convocation Ceremony of the revered Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO), on 1st December 2023, an erudite scholar, Dr Emmanuel Abraham graciously delivered a Convocation Lecture titled "Twists, Turns and Triumphs of University Education in Nigeria".

In his about 2-hour Lecture, Dr Abraham - who is a renowned entrepreneur in education - challenged the key stakeholders in the said field to live up to the expectations towards creating innovative phase in the sector.

He opined that the university education in Nigeria had provided the critical manpower needed in the various areas of the nation's developmental efforts.

Having enthused that there were several noticeable cases the Nigeria university system had triumphed, the lecturer disclosed that finance remained one of the major driving forces in the actualization of universities' main "obligations and interventions".

The Convocation Lecture was, later in the day, proceeded by a Cocktail Night between the University Management and members of the FUTO Alumni, at Glo-Ran Hotel within the Owerri Metropolis. A lecture was equally delivered at the gathering by Engr. Prof. F. K. Opara, on the topic: "Towards a Healthy Alumni-University Relationship".

It's noteworthy that the activities that formed part of the Combined Convocation Ceremony commenced on Tuesday, 28th November 2023 with Pre-Convocation Press Briefing at the Council Chamber, whereby the Eight Substantive Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mrs. Nnenna N. Oti extensively briefed members of the Media on the State of Afffairs of the University since she assumed duty.

The following day, being Wednesday 29th November 2023 witnessed an Ecumenical Service at the Professor C. O. E. Onwiliri Conference Centre, where non-denominational prayers were said for the wellbeing of the University Community.

On Thursday, being 30th November 2023, a Tree Planting activity was held, whereby key stakeholders of the University and the Alumni, led by the Vice-Chancellor, participated in planting of economic trees on the campus for the sake of the ecosystem.

On that very day, being Thursday, the Vice-Chancellor also commissioned key capital projects that had been successfully completed on campus, particularly at the University Computer Centre (UCC) headed by Engr. Prof. Damian D**e.

The Convocation proper is scheduled to hold on Saturday 2nd December 2023, which would witness Admission to First Degrees and Higher Degrees as well as Induction of the graduands by the University Chancellor.
