ALUMNI EXECUTIVE REPORT UPDATE ABOUT THE ACU INCIDENT
Following the death of a student that was beaten by his hostel mate last week, the Alumni Executive took it upon themselves to visit the University Management in order to know the actual situation of things and the latest update.
Upon our arrival we met with the Vice Chancellor, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, the Registrar and some other principal officers.We commiserate with them about the death of the boy and that the Alumni as a body are not happy with such an incident that has put our own University into a bad limelight.
We made some presentations and gave a lot of suggestions concerning how the University Management can stop a future occurrence of such incident.
The Vice Chancellor appreciated our coming and he told us that all the boys involved are still in the Police custody till date at the State Headquarters in Ibadan.He also emphasized that the other boy who was reported to have escaped to Canada is also in Police custody and he had been transferred to Ibadan.The porter of the same hostel where the incident happened is still in police custody till date.Also the two securities who were reported for r**e are to appear in court today , 30th of May,2024.
He also said that every of the Students,University Porters and securities would be subjected to drug test and if they are found culpable, they would be expelled and dismissed with immediate effect.
He also talked about the increased security network in the University, we saw some numbers of Civil Defence Officers standing at some key positions within the school premises working hand in hand with the securities in the school.
The parents of the deceased also visited the school yesterday and they also suggested some other ways that the school management can step up their level of awareness among the students about not taking any law into their hands if any student is caught stealing, such student should be handed over the University security for proper investigation and punishment.
He also gave an emphasis about the dismissal of all the securities after the end of the session and they must all re-apply with more stiffer conditions upon re-application.
We told the management that the Alumni as a body would keep working hands in hands with the University to ensure the vision of it establishment are well pursued to the core.
We met with some Executives of ACUSA which are the students body and we sensitize them on the need to always make sure every of their members are well protected from any harm from other students and also that any case of theft, bullying should be reported to the University Management.
We pray that the soul of the deceased rest in perfect peace and that no evil of such would be associated with the University anymore.
