Today, on World English Day (April 23), we celebrate the power of the English language as a global tool for connection, knowledge, and opportunity. It opens doors to literature, science, commerce, and shared understanding across cultures.
At ChristieToby InclusiveEducation Centre in Iriebe, Port Harcourt, this day holds special meaning. As Nigeria’s pioneering privately owned fully inclusive school, we provide quality education that brings together regular learners and students with special needs — including those with visual, hearing, speech, or physical impairments — in the same classrooms.
English serves as our common medium of instruction, enabling every child to access the same rich curriculum, participate in discussions, express ideas, and build confidence together. Whether through storytelling, reading Shakespeare’s timeless works, writing essays, or everyday classroom conversations, the language helps bridge differences and foster genuine inclusion.
We are proud that our students — both with and without disabilities — achieve strong results in English and other subjects, with many advancing to higher education at home and abroad. This reflects our commitment to equal opportunities and uncompromised quality education for all.
On this World English Day, let us reaffirm that language should unite rather than divide. At Christie Toby Inclusive Education Centre, we continue to nurture every learner’s potential through inclusive, supportive, and excellent teaching — because every child deserves the chance to learn, communicate, and thrive in a shared world.
Happy World English Day from all of us at CTIEC!
Building brighter futures together.
