I finished secondary school in 2015, and like many others, I believed that going further in education was impossible. I did nothing but wait for a miracle to happen—but nothing changed.
Then in 2021, I heard about the Federated Union of Onne Students (FUOS) when Besemi Beeyah was the president. He didn’t just talk about the opportunities available to Onne students, he demonstrated them. He highlighted numerous benefits such as scholarships, mentorship, IT placements, vocational jobs, and bursary support. Most importantly, he made the bursary a reality at a time when it was most needed. That moment reignited my belief in education and showed me that hope was not lost.
By 2022, I sat for JAMB, gained admission, and today, I’m in 300 Level, proudly serving as the President of the Federated Union of Onne Students and also as the President of my department.
But I know there are many Onne students out there today just like I was, uninformed, unmotivated, and unaware of the opportunities that could change their lives. Many believe higher education is out of reach because of financial constraints, lack of guidance, or limited access to information.
That’s why we, the Federated Union of Onne Students (FUOS), are embarking on a Secondary School Sensitization Tour across our communities.
What the Tour Will Cover:
The importance of education in personal and community development
Career guidance and understanding different fields of study
Scholarship and bursary opportunities available
The dangers of drug abuse and the need to uphold strong moral values
Real-life motivation stories from those who once thought education was out of reach
We will also be presenting motivational gifts to students who show eagerness to learn and grow. Because even though education may not be compulsory, we are here to show them that it is necessary for a better life and a stronger Onne.
Anticipate!!! It’s not just a tour, it’s a movement.
Together, we are raising a generation that believes in the power of education.
