The IPS MSc students enrolled in the Petroleum Engineering and Project Development program successfully completed their Geosciences and reservoir module two weeks ago with a two-week Reservoir Simulation course handled by IFP School's Head of international and business development, Maria Eugenia Aguilera.

She set the tone for the successful completion of the Alywn reservoir field's initial development plan. The knowledgeable instructor led the students through the fascinating maze of reservoir development planning, teaching them how to optimize well placement and perforation strategies, perform history matching, conduct economic analysis on the scenarios tested, and properly compile a report on their findings. It was a tremendous accomplishment for the students and a significant turning point in their education.

Maria Eugenia Aguilera finished her term at the Institute of Petroleum Studies (IPS)/IFP School by breaking the students into teams to work on a Reservoir Simulation project.

These were two weeks that the students would never forget since they provided an authentic picture of what reservoir engineering is all about.

Big thanks to for their sponsorship.

A few comments from students below:

"Learning simulation was a lot easier than I thought. She really broke down the core concepts and showed interest in what everyone was doing."

"It was a terrific two-week reservoir simulation learning experience with Maria. Her cross-cultural training expertise, combined with her contagious enthusiasm and vast knowledge, proved immensely beneficial. And it was one hell of a project we worked on. I feel like a reservoir engineer already!!!"

IPS MSc and PGD students took part actively in the Symposium on Saturday 23rd April 2022. The program was themed around “Powering the journey to renewable energy”. The students took part in short courses, breakout sessions and a career fair.
They reported that the Panel discussion was a big eye-opener for them as the reality of the global energy transition, their best stance and role in this transition became clearer.

Furthermore, two of the students also made the podium for the final debate session on the inclusion of Nuclear energy and natural gas as green energy sources. (for the motion) and (against the motion) intelligently rattled the ideologies of young professionals present in ways befitting the Institute that they represented.

With their excellent networking skills put to work, the symposium was indeed a worthy learning and networking experience for the students of the Institute.

''There could be no definition of a successful life that does not include service to others" President George W. Bush. The IPS MSc students marked the Easter celebration by reaching out to the children at Blesam Orphanage home. in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.
It was a thrilling and heart-warming experience for both the students and the children at the orphanage.
The students presented gifts of food items to the home while engaging the children in games, dancing, quizzes, prayers and lots more.

The kids were receptive, smart and optimistic about their abilities and future.
The experience filled the hearts of both the kids and students with joy and deepened their love for humanity.

The students made the Institute proud.

The past month has been intense yet enlightening for the IPS MSc class.

Francis Fusier of and MSc program coordinator at the Institute of Petroleum Studies (IPS)/IFP School drilled the students on Well Architecture and Casing Design as well as Drilling Operations and Optimization. He introduced the students to calculations on mud density, casing shoe positioning, casing strength, and other drilling parameters.

The students were also given a copy of the most recent Drilling Data Handbook (DDH) published and sent by the School in France and were taken through different projects aimed at mastering the use of this 'new bible' as the students fondly call it.

As the IPS Batch 18 set count down to their graduation. It's exciting to have them meet with the Schlumberger Country Director, Nelson Wilbert.

He toured the facilities and spent time to share his story, recruitment tips and provided insights on how they could position themselves better in the energy transition.

It was a very priceless experience for the Students!

Road trips are usually filled with excitement and our students trip to the Petroleum Training Institute (P.T.I.), Nigeria. in Delta State is not an exemption.

After undergoing a series of lectures on drilling and production operations, the IPS MSc students visited the "PTI demonstration workover rig" in a quest to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and field experience.

On the field, the students were exposed to drilling equipments such as the Derrick, shale shakers, hydroclone (desander and desilter) etc.

In bid to showcase a typical operation of a drilling rig, a real time rig and production process was simulated! Talk about

All equipment and tools described in the class were finally identified.

In all, the level of professionalism exhibited by the staffs in charge of the demonstration rig was outstanding and this made the site visit an intriguing experience.

We prepare our students to fit into the Industry seamlessly. Last month, the MSc students spent the week in Total Village as they began their journey in Reservoir Simulation
Maria Eugenia Aguilera, the Venezuelan who heads international and business development at flew in to do her magic and she was amazing! She took them from the very basics of Structural and stratigraphic modeling to complex dynamic modeling. She had the students interpret PVT data from a Total field. She literally dissected the backend of Schlumberger Eclipse. For her, it was more important to know how to think than just press buttons. Now the students have the best of both worlds!

The training continues this week with workshops using Eclipse, the students will be divided into groups of 3 to review real geological data, perform dynamic modeling, and simulate different scenarios in an attempt to propose a development plan for Alwyn North field. This will constitute their Reservoir Simulation Project.

______________
Here's what , a student of the program had to say 🗣

"The week was definitely one of the most exhilarating for me because it felt like I was taking a voyage within the Reservoir to visualize its dynamics and complexities. All my expectations were met and I was beyond pleased to be able to use Eclipse to create a reservoir model and predict potential problems that could arise during the reservoir's lifetime. I really look forward to this week's activities"

The Institute of Petroleum Studies program is designed to create the best industry ready professionals.

A while back, the MSc students spent a week out of class at Total Village with Somiari Patrick, General Manager, Administration, TEPNG at , PHC Division.

At this out-of-school lecture, they learnt about Drilling Fluids and Cementing; the procedures involved as well as the various criteria for optimal selection. The diversity of the class shone as the Civil, Petroleum, Mechanical and Chemical Engineers present brought different perspectives to the topic.

At the end of this illuminating period, the students visited BEST LAND & SEA SERVICES LIMITED to experience all they learnt. They saw mud mixing in action as well as the various base fluids and additives present. It was a priceless experience, all thanks to Somiari Patrick, with confirmation from all the students that their expectations were met.
