A productive and impactful engagement today with the Chairman of Wamakko Local Government Area, focused on strengthening educational support and student development at Khalifa College of Advanced Studies, Sokoto.
Our delegation met with the Chairman to appreciate his unwavering commitment in sponsoring about 98 students across various diploma programmes in the College.
We provided a comprehensive briefing on their academic progress as they transition into the Second Semester of Diploma II, noting encouraging performance, improved retention, and positive academic discipline among the beneficiaries.
In the course of discussions, we emphasized the need for additional support mechanisms, particularly in facilitating structured transportation systems for students commuting to school.
Establishing an organized transport scheme by the LGA will significantly enhance punctuality, safety, and overall academic productivity.
We also highlighted the College’s strategic direction toward expanding its academic horizon by introducing more health-related programmes, in alignment with current national demands and workforce needs.
This move positions the institution as a forward-looking hub for both science and health education.
Furthermore, we briefed the Chairman on the activities of our Skill Acquisition Centre, where youths and students are empowered through practical, market-relevant trades including:
1. Solar and Electrical Installation
2. Tailoring
3. Hairstyling & Makeup
4. Catering
5. Shoe and Bag Making
6. Leather and Metal Works etc
These programmes are offered at highly subsidized rates with a 3-month intensive training structure, aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and self-reliance.
We commend the Chairman’s exemplary leadership and strong investment in human capital development, and we call on other Local Government Chairmen to emulate this model in supporting education and youth empowerment within their domains.
Together, we continue to build a future driven by knowledge, skills, and opportunity.
