The Nigerian Society of Physical Sciences (NSPS) is pleased to announce the recipient of the NSPS PhD Thesis Prize 2026 (Computer Science Section). Following a rigorous and transparent evaluation process, the Society has resolved to confer this prestigious award on Dr. Bello Alhaji Buhari, a doctoral graduate of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, in recognition of the exceptional quality and scholarly significance of his doctoral research.
Dr. Buhari is honoured for his PhD thesis entitled “Web-based User Authentication and Access Control: An Enhanced Multi-Factor Biometric Cryptographic Scheme Based on Client File and S13 Quantum Key Distribution Protocol.” The thesis was assessed to exhibit strong originality, technical depth, and clear relevance to contemporary challenges in cybersecurity, particularly in the design of secure authentication and access-control frameworks.
Dr. Bello Alhaji Buhari obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (Second Class Upper Division) from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, in 2000. He proceeded to earn a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 2009, and subsequently completed his PhD in Computer Science, with specialization in Cybersecurity, in 2025. Since 2004, he has served as a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, contributing consistently to teaching, research, and academic mentorship. His research interests are focused on cybersecurity, authentication systems, and cryptographic protocols.
The NSPS PhD Thesis Prize is awarded annually to recognize doctoral research that demonstrates outstanding scholarly merit, originality, and a meaningful contribution to the advancement of knowledge across the physical and computational sciences. The Society is therefore pleased to formally announce this decision as part of its continuing commitment to excellence in research and postgraduate scholarship.
The award ceremony will take place on 10 February 2026.
